Run your dream marathon or half marathon
in beautiful Malta
Runners who discover the Malta Marathon know they’re on to a good thing. With a relaxed atmosphere,
stunning surroundings, and February temperatures on average 10°c higher than the UK, Malta in February is the
perfect location for a marathon.

Both the 26 mile and 13 mile courses begin in Mdina, the ancient walled city at Malta’s highest point, and wind
down through the hills - perfect for achieving a personal best time. The race finishes in Sliema, near to the team
hotel and Malta’s fabulous coastline.

If you are looking for a challenge

to kick-start 2010, why not join our
Malta Marathon team?

Why run for the Family Holiday Association?

Team Starfish is raising funds to help give children living in poverty
the chance to create some happy childhood memories.

For over 30 years, the Family Holiday Association has given families
dealing with difficult circumstances the chance to enjoy a break away
from the stresses of daily life, usually at the seaside—something that
so many of us take for granted, but something that is an unreachable
dream for millions of children.

You will be helping families coping with desperate circumstances:

those dealing with disability, bereavement, poverty, mental health
problems, inadequate housing, or
abuse.

Typically, a family granted a break spends a week staying in one of our caravans in
a UK seaside town. These simple holidays can help strengthen relationships within
the family and give family members a fresh perspective, providing them with the
motivation to make positive changes to their lives.

This story of a family the charity recently assisted highlights the value of a holiday
for a family in need: The three Hilliard children live with their mother, who is now
a single parent after Mr Hilliard died in spring 2005. Mrs Hilliard, who suffers from
depression and has recently been diagnosed with cancer, felt the family needed
some time away together. Their welfare agent said, “The family are going through
a chaotic stage at the moment. The holiday has given them a chance to step back
and reflect.”

Over 2 million UK families are unable to afford a simple break by the seaside. By
joining Team Starfish and running for the Family Holiday Association, you will be
helping children from those families—children who have never smelt fresh sea air,
or felt sand between their toes.

Your training support team

The Family Holiday Association welcomes on board Mark Gardner, Jarlath O’Hara and Rory Coleman to reinforce
Team Starfish at the Malta Marathon. With over 660 marathons, 210 ultra-marathons, 10 world records and a UK
record for running 7 marathons in 7 days over two continents under their collective belts, the boys will
contribute to regular newsletters containing training programmes, nutritional advice, tips on clothing as well as
running a pre-race UK training seminar and Q&A session in Malta
prior to the big day. Alongside the advice and tips the three runners
will be joining us over the 13.1 and 26.2 mile circuits to ensure you
are fully supported in this fantastic event.

Raising funds for families in need

By running for the Family Holiday Association in Malta, you will be joining Team Starfish, a team committed to
raising funds to help give children living in poverty the chance to enjoy a much-needed break away with their
family, probably for the first time.

Each Team Starfish member is asked to raise a minimum of £300, and will be given comprehensive guidance in
developing a fundraising plan.

If you wish, for every pound you raise over £300, you may have an equal amount in travel costs (up to a value of
£299) refunded.
