ABOUT THE PROJECT

40 youngsters from six EU member states (Croatia, Spain, Greece, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria) and two non-EU member states (Serbia & FYR Macedonia) have worked together for 9 days in Murter on the Youth exchange "Apply for a Job" on a common European problem we all face nowadays unemployment. Youth unemployment rates are generally much higher than unemployment rates for all ages. High youth unemployment rates reflect the difficulties which young people are faced with in finding jobs. Throughout the last decade the youth unemployment rate in the EU was around twice as high as the rate for the total population.

Apply for a job has focused on the development of "summarized" skills and behaviors among young people and helped them face the world of employers. The project has been implemented under the Youth in Action Program by the organization Argonauta, located on the island of Murter, Croatia.

HOW TO WRITE A GOOD CV?

There is no right or wrong way to write a CV but there are some common sections you should cover. These include: personal and contact information; education and qualifications; work history and/or experience; relevant skills to the job in question; own interests, achievements or hobbies; and some references.

Usually a CV should be no more than two pages A4 format; Take the time to change your CV for each job position that you apply for. Research the company and use the job advert to work out EXACTLY what skills you should point out to them; Employers DO look for mistakes on CVs and if they find them, it makes you look really bad. If you're unsure then use a spellchecker and ask someone else to double-check what you've written; Tell the truth; Take some time to pretty it up... Use bullet points and keep sentences short. Use the graphic design trick of leaving plenty of white space around text and between categories to make the layout easy on the eye; Under the skills section of your CV don't forget to mention key skills that can help you to stand out from the crowd; Normally reverse chronological order is best as then the most recent comes first; Keep your CV up-to-date;

HOW TO WRITE A GOOD MOTIVATION LETTER?

Dont copy your motivation letter from others, but make sure that the letter is tuned to the company and job you are applying for. A motivation letter is a personal letter, so use your own style to show who you are; Stick to the point. Companies want to know why you want to work in their company, so dont use complex language or long poetic phrases; Dont let your motivation letter and your CV echo. The motivation letter should be complementary to your CV where you can highlight some of the relevant items of your CV. Dont list all the items of your CV in the motivation letter; Dont exaggerate. Make sure that you dont mention new items in your motivation letter which are not mentioned in your CV; Mention clearly why the company has to choose you for the stage/ job; If you know the name of the responsible person, start your letter with this name.; Start always with your positive points, weak points they will ask in the talk, so dont mention them in your letter; Formulate your letter positive and future oriented; Motivate your statements with facts and experiences; Collect information about the company. In this way you show interest and you can adapt your letter better to the company needs and function; Spell-check;

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A JOB INTERVIEW?

Research the company's profile and background; Think of questions to ask your interviewer; Anticipate questions from the interviewer (e.g. Whats your biggest weakness? , Where do you see yourself in five years? , Why do you want this job? ,Why did you leave your last job? ); Practice with a peer; As a rule of thumb, you should dress for the interview the way you would for the job itself;

Make sure you know exactly how to get there and just where to park so that you can arrive 15 to 20 minutes before the scheduled interview time;

Bring an extra copy of your CV and/or
