MARRIAGE CEREMONY

MAYOR to the PUBLIC: Ladies and Gentlemen, we are gathered here this morning/afternoon/evening in order to solemnize this matrimonial union of ABDUL and CHANDRINA in accordance with the Civil Code of the Philippines, if there are any of you who oppose the same by virtue of any legal impediment, you may now come forward to openly manifest your objection or otherwise be barred forever. There being none, we may now proceed MAYOR TO THE CONTRACTING PARTIES Are you both here of your own DESIRE without having been compelled to do so by other persons? (Both should answer YES) ABDUL and CHANDRINA did you come before me this day voluntarily, freely and willingly enter into a harmonious marital union in accordance with the Civil law of the Philippines? (answer YES) Are you serious in, and desirous of, establishing a happy conjugal union and of raising a family in accordance with the good moral concepts of a modern and responsible society? (answer YES) MAYOR: Marriage is a ceremonial, symbolic and serious act by which is a man and woman unite for life, with the obligation to discharge to God, to our country and towards each other the sacred duties which result from an everlasting conjugal unity. Marriage is both a civil and social institution for it is the basic and primordial foundation of the family in particular and the whole society in general. This holy unity is hence a sacrament which is generally insoluble and indestructible, except by death or by sanction of the government. If you are members of the Roman Catholic Church or any other religion you may again be ceremonially married in accordance with the rites of your church or religion in order to be in consonance with the practices of said church. However, this ceremony standing alone is of course valid and binding in itself not only in this country but also universally. MAYOR TO ABDUL ABDUL : Do you take CHANDRINA here present now to be your lawful-wedded wife in accordance with our laws? (Answer, YES) (ABDUL to repeat after solemnizing officer) I, take thee ARLENE, for may lawful wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do as part.

MAYOR TO CHANDRINA CHANDRINA: Do you take ABDUL here present now, to be your lawful wedded husband in accordance with our laws? (answer,YES) (CHANDRINA to repeat after the solemnizing officer): I, take thee ABDUL for my lawful husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do us part. RING CEREMONY ABDUL: Wear this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. With this ring I have accepted you as my wife and my beloved partner for life. CHANDRINA: Wear this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. With this ring I have accepted you as my husband and the head of the family. MAYOR: My dear Sponsors, may I ask you to help this couple by prayer and by deed that they may be acceptable as good citizens of our community of mankind in accordance with the good concepts of our new society. Guided by your reciprocal desire, you have thus given your mutual voluntary consent, In the presence of all your sponsors, parents and guests, as your solemnizing officer, I now pronounce you husband and wife.
