8. HR Department of PTCL a.

Introduction: The human resource department in PTCL was formally established in 1996 and it was reorganized in 2005. PTCL. Human resource is known as the HRIS-PTCL and it is working under SEVP and GM under region centers. HR Managers plays very important in the hierarchy of PTCL and also in between the higher management and lower management employees. HR Specialists are deputed to achieve the company over all objectives, goals by properly managing and utilizing the company resources. b. HR Importance: The main objective of HR department in PTCL is to meet company needs of the human resource and the needs of the people hired by the company. The Management of the PTCL considers that in order to stay competitive and to meet needs of the customers. They also focus on the employees. They consider the employees as the main asset of the company providing the better facilities c. The Objectives of the HR department at PTCL 1) It aims to be the preferred employer, (included in the top tiers along with other companies, which are recognized and preferred multinationals). 2) To have a competitive remuneration package (i.e. competitive salaries, perks & benefits). 3) To provide excellent opportunities for the development of well defined career paths. 4) Development of effective manpower planning. 5) To have an efficient information system. 6) The company wants to attain an 'Achievement Culture', using the tools of Career Development, Communication, and Training and Development. d. HR Initiatives In addition to that, some of the key initiatives taken by the new management are as follows: 1) Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) Since the organization was over-staffed as per international standards, the new management tried to bring it to international standards. All regular employees were offered an incentive scheme and were offered a chance to leave the organization. Out of 58,000 employees, 30,000 opted for VSS and were paid emoluments according to the offered package.

2) Automation: Management introduced the culture of automation. E-mail IDs were assigned to all officers and all official correspondence previously done through letters and faxes/post was to be done through e-mail. 3) SAP: All purchases/repairs to be made through this system. One of the most updated business software; it helps the companies automate their businesses. Some of the modules implemented are: Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) Customer Relationship Management(CRM) Leave Management System: All leave Applications are processed on Leave Management System. Performance Management System: Online PMS has been developed and pay-rise and promotions have been based on this. Employees getting good score will get good pay-rise and vice-versa. Transfer/Postings and payroll, Travel Management, etc. have been converted to SAP. Shortly, all HR processes are also planned to be shifted to SAP-HCM module.
