A precision PLC for the heat treatment industry

The E+PLC400 combines the flexibility of a PLC with precise Eurotherm Control, in a new solution designed for heat treatment and other applications requiring precise temperature control. To help meet the demands of this highly regulated industry, Eurotherm also provides secure recording and archiving strategies for compliance to standards. This combination of an open PLC platform with world class Eurotherm Control and Recording, creates a future proof, all-in-one solution, economically adaptable for a variety of applications. Simple configuration, chosen from a comprehensive set of function blocks and libraries aids faster implementation and maintenance of the process. A range of Eurotherm control and recording function blocks, containing IP perfected through over 40 years of experience, help to get the set up right first time. With the added benefit of Eurotherm accurate analogue and digital I/O, tighter tolerances can be achieved, leading to better quality end products and less waste. Putting this together with sophisticated Control, Recording and Archiving strategies results in an all in one solution that enables the process to run at maximum performance while achieving maximum efficiency.

Eurotherm Control Inside

The precision offered by the Eurotherm Control strategy is unrivalled, based on custom algorithms perfected over the past forty years. Building this into the E+PLC400 embeds the precision of our external discrete controllers within the flexibility of a PLC, forming a more economical solution. Unlike traditional PLC programming, complicated DIY function block building is a thing of the past and configuration is simply carried out by filling in the required parameters within Eurotherm function blocks in the CODESYS software. Closely integrated with our Setpoint Programmer and Autotune functions, Eurotherm PID enables a fast but stable response in both normal and unexpected situations.

Setpoint Programmer
Setting up a program is easy using provided spread sheet style templates. These can be shared and stored in a central library then downloaded to the product via comms, HMI or digital event. Further storage for a minimum of 200 programs of 32 segments is set aside onboard, with segment types for Off, Dwell, Ramp Rate, Ramp Time, Wait and Go Back (repeat). The SPP is tightly integrated with Eurotherm control and recording strategies, to provide a comprehensive but quick to implement solution for the smooth running of multiple loops in the process.

Flexible CODESYS Software

Fully compliant with IEC 61131-3, the industry recognised CODESYS platform with IDE config tool enables the user to configure and maintain the program in a single PC based tool, that is interoperable with CODESYS enabled PLCs from other suppliers. An extensive range of Libraries, Editors and Graphical Components are available for programming and visualisation of projects. OSCAT libraries are supported and editors include Alarm Configuration, Recipe Manager and the following programming languages : Continuous Function Chart (CFC) Function Block Diagram (FBD) Instruction List (IL) Ladder Logic Diagram (LD) Sequential Function Chart (SFC) Structured Text (ST)

A range of specific Eurotherm Function Blocks containing our well respected IP are selectable from an extensive list of functions and function blocks in the CODESYS libraries. Available blocks include PID, Autotune, Setpoint Programmer, Batch Recording and Archiving, with Zirconia Probe as an option for heat treatment applications. Using our precise, stable control strategies, helps save energy and increase efficiency by getting to the setpoint faster and eradicating overshoot and oscillations which also results in better quality end products, finished to the required high standards.

Secure Recording Strategy

Eurotherm advanced recording and archive strategies are available to ensure the safe capture and storage of valuable process data, in tamper resistant UHH files developed by Eurotherm through years of experience. Up to 30 groups can be recorded, each with up to 127 channels and vital data can be backed up by automatic transfer to USB Media, or multiple servers via FTP. The historical data can be viewed from either a Panel HMI or PC using Eurotherm Review software, Eurotherm Online Service (EOS Director) or a web browser. This best in class form of data recording meets the most stringent of regulatory requirements including AMS2750, CQI-9 and Nadcap.

Autotune
The control parameters in the E+PLC400 can be set manually, but a great advantage is the Autotune function which automatically works out the optimum control settings for the application. Easily performed by the operator, it automatically calculates and sets many parameters, a task that would normally take a skilled engineer several hours to complete manually. The Autotune algorithm gives excellent results over a diverse range of applications making it a great time saving tool for precise configuration of heat treatment and other processes.

Batch Recording
Batch recording for easily traceable records is simply configured in a function block. The Batch information can be entered by the user via the HMI and the resulting files automatically transferred at the end of the batch. The data can then be quickly accessed by searching, using Eurotherm Review software or Eurotherm Online Service (EOS Director).

Base Unit
General
The base unit is fitted with the E+PLC400 processor modules plus additional I/O modules. These modules plug onto terminal units, which provide the wiring interface between the plant or machine and the I/O modules. Bases are available in 4 sizes to suit the number of modules required in a particular system. Communication between the I/O modules and the processor is effected by the use of a passive internal module I/O bus running along the width of the base. Each module position is tracked separately for additional security during live replacement of I/O modules. The base consists of an aluminium extrusion, the internal I/O bus and mounting supports. It is designed to be DIN rail mounted or directly fixed to a bulkhead or mounting plate.
