Executive Summary

Overview
I have been a part of Ryerson’s Tri-Mentoring Program for the past year. The Mentoring Program is designed to match
incoming students with peer mentors who are established in the Ryerson community. After serving as a peer mentor,
participating students then have the opportunity to be matched with a professional mentor. The professional mentor is
typically one who has inspired the student, and displays the personal attributes and accomplishments that the student
wishes to emulate. For me, that person is you, President Sheldon Levy. I have followed your open engagement with
students and witnessed the momentum you have generated for Ryerson since 2005. You are a dynamic leader and
continually contribute to academic quality, innovative research, and student success, while also taking part in
organizations, groups and boards within Toronto. My hope is that you will be willing to engage in a professional mentor/
mentee relationship with me for the duration of the 2008/09 academic year. I believe my leadership experience in the
Ryerson community positions me as an ideal candidate to be your mentee. This partnership would require only a small
amount of your time, and in addition to benefiting me, I believe it will be beneficial to you, your office, as well asthe
Ryerson community.

Background
I am in my final year of the Collaborative Nursing Degree Program and have held leadership positions within many
student groups. I have been described as a student leader by both faculty and peers and am recognized for my
commitment to community service in Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Germany, Ireland and India. My personal philosophy
is to continually develop myself to serve others, and find the opportunity in every problem. My Long-term plan is to enter
Healthcare or Post-Secondary Administration. I am passionate about caring for and developing others, and want to
create, as well as work in, environments with strong leadership, dedication to excellence, and where innovation and
inquiry are encouraged. I want to help others find in themselves what motivates and helps them to succeed. I would like
to use this experience to encourage faculty to support students, and those students to take up opportunities while
attending Ryerson. I am innovative, adaptive and willing to listen and learn. Words cannot express how grateful I would
be if given this opportunity.

Proposal
1. To meet with you for 15 minutes once a month for mentorship, at your convenience.

2. Alternatively, I would be open to forming a group of five student leaders to meet for group mentoring for 30 minutes
each month.

Mentoring Goals for the Year

During this mentorship I hope to accomplish these specific goals:

1. Learn how to prepare for executive/committee meetings and how to construct a strategic vision for student groups/
organization.

2. Improve my ability to develop partnerships, and increase funding sources for student organization and leadership.

3. Increase student group/personal visibility and organizational strength.

President Levy, we have already had a memorable encounter at a luncheon when you were generous enough to givie me
your tie.. I hope to establish with you a valuable mentoring experience. I invite you to peruse my Curriculum Vitae which
