Getting best out of your Dual Action Hand Spray Gun Models HB 86 xxx, HB 35 xxx & DJ 10 xxx
The Dual Action Hand Spray Gun is designed to give air blast for die cleaning and spray of die coat. Partially pressing the handle gives air blast for blowing away scales or for blowing away excess die coat. Pressing the handle fully gives spray of die coat. The Dual Action one Hand for Spray Gun has two Hose Connectors: compressed air and the other for liquid (die coat). Air is stamped on the right front side of the body to indicate air path. The Air Hose Connector is longer than Liquid For Hose standard Connector.

models use braided hose pipe of 8 mm inside diameter for both air and liquid connections. For XT models use hose pipes with BSP (G ) connectors. The quantity of the die coat can be controlled using brass Liquid Control Valve located near top surface of the body. For part names and part numbers please refer Exploded view and Spare Parts List. For Dual Action Hand Spray Gun model names please refer our Dual Action Hand Spray Gun Ordering Guide For all the models except DJ 10 xxxPF the die coat can be supplied using gravity feeding arrangement or Pressure feeding Arrangement. For model DJ 10 xxxPF die coat should be supplied using pressure feeding arrangement. Enclosed please find schematic diagrams of the gravity and pressure feeding arrangements. Also enclosed is schematic diagram of Pressure Feed Container. For gravity feeding arrangement, place the open die coat container at height of minimum 8 to 10 feet above spray gun level. For bigger dies where requirement of die coat is higher pressure feeding arrangement is recommended. Also where the die coat is a suspension then pressure feeding arrangement may be needed since it is inconvenient to stir the die coat kept in a container at height.

When using pressure feeding arrangement care should be taken to keep the liquid supply pressure as low as possible. At higher liquid pressures the discharge from pressure feeding tank is very high which may cause over cooling of die and wastage of die coat. The liquid supply pressure of 0.2 kg/cm 2 is also sufficient to provide necessary liquid discharge. For little increase in liquid pressure there is more increase in discharge from pressure feed tank. The air pressure should be above 5 Kg/cm 2 for powerful air blast. Blasting effect increases at higher air pressures and higher air volumes. Supply compressed air directly from air supply line to the spray gun with least number of connectors in between. It is not advisable to use quick release couplings for air, since it causes reduction in air blast. Any obstruction in the air passage causes reduction in blasting effect. When using model HB 35 and when gentle spraying is desired the air can be supplied at @ 2 Kg/cm 2 .

In model DJ 10 xxx the air pressure and liquid pressure need to be balanced. If the air pressure is much higher than liquid supply pressure then the air may push the liquid back in the liquid supply line. In that case the air supply pressure may need to be reduced to overcome the problem of liquid backing out. Alternatively increase the liquid supply pressure to avoid backing out of die coat. For model DJ 10 xxxPF pressure feeding arrangement is required as liquid at higher pressure is needed. To get effective spray, increase the liquid supply pressure and/or reduce the air supply pressure. The atomization of liquid (die coat) depends on air pressure and die coat quantity. The fineness of atomization is directly proportional to air pressure and inversely proportional to liquid quantity. Reduction in air pressure gives coarse atomization. Similarly higher liquid discharge quantity will give coarse atomization. The spray gun nozzle is essential for effective blast and effective atomisation of die coat. Replace the nozzle when damaged.

The common problem faced with the spray gun is less or no liquid being sprayed and in majority of cases the cause is foreign matter (like cotton waste threads) accumulation in the liquid passage of the spray gun. Care should be taken while preparing and handling die coat to avoid foreign matter getting in the die coat. Also where the die coat is a suspension the die coat should be filtered before use. Suspensions have a tendency to coagulate and lumps such formed can obstruct the die coat flow. One may experience intermittent / cyclic spraying. This happens when less liquid is being supplied to the spray gun. Increase the liquid supply pressure and/or flow to overcome this problem. On the machine, between operation cycles, The Dual Action Hand Spray Gun needs to be stowed. Rest the spray gun on some round object/bar by placing the round bar between handle of the spray gun and body. Do not hang the spray gun by the aluminium pipe as it could put unnecessary load on the aluminium pipe causing it to get bend. When the spray gun is not going to be used for more than a few hours, like on weekends, it is advisable to clean the liquid path in the spray gun to avoid drying of die coat in the spray gun. For flushing the liquid path, shut off air supply to the spray gun but keep the liquid supply on. Use a suitable flushing liquid instead of regular die coat and operate the spray gun for some time. For water based die coats just flush the liquid path thoroughly by plain water so that no traces of die coat remain in the spray gun. For oil based die coats use suitable liquids like kerosene to flush the liquid path.

be replaced then the same can be removed using a blunt flattened bend wire. Push the flattened wire in the groove under the O ring and push the O ring out. 24. Clean /degrease the gun body and all the parts thoroughly using suitable cleaning liquids e.g. kerosene. 25. For cleaning the internal air passage, blow compressed air in the gun body from the aluminium pipe side, from Plunger holes of the body and from Hose Connector side.

Procedure for assembling the Dual Action Hand Spray Gun

1. Assemble the Plunger, Rubber Washer and Spring Seat. The Spring Seat should be slightly tightened such that it is holding the washer firmly without distorting its shape. Over tightening of the Spring Seat would distort the Rubber Washer thereby restricting the air/liquid passage. Replace worn out / cracked Rubber Washer with new if needed. 2. The Air Plunger and Liquid Plunger are different. Air Plunger is longer and its diameter of the step near threading is bigger than that of the Liquid Plunger. 3. Push the Air Plunger assembly in the air cavity of the spray gun. The air side is the right hand side of the spray gun when the gun is held horizontal with the stamped serial number at the top and aluminium pipe side facing away. Air is also stamped on the right side of the gun body near Liquid Control Valve. 4. Using the taper spring push the Plunger until it comes out of the front side of the spray gun body. 5. Put the taper spring in the gun such that the small diameter is resting on the Spring Seat and the bigger diameter is against the Hose Connector. 6. Hold the body in the bench vice with Hose Connector side pointing upward. 7. Ensure that there is gap between lower side of the vice jaw and Liquid Control Valve side of the gun body. Also ensure that no other portion of the gun body is touching the bench vice. 8. Wrap a little Teflon tape (thread seal tape) on the threads of Air Hose Connector following right hand thread pattern and fit it in the gun body. Check that Teflon

tape is only on the threads and not over the hole of the Hose Connector. A little pressure is needed to hold and push the Hose Connector in place till the Hose Connector threads engage with the gun body threads. For both the XT connector the threaded portions are different in length. The longer threaded portion goes in the spray gun body. 9. Tighten the Hose Connector using side spanner size 14. 10. Similarly fit the liquid Hose Connector. For both the XT connectors the threaded portions are different in length. The longer threaded portion goes in the spray gun body. 11. Using pliers tighten the brass pipe. Take care to use the round holding jaws of the pliers for tightening the brass pipe. Otherwise, the brass pipe may get flattened. Also do not over tighten the brass pipe. 12. Remove the gun from bench vice. 13. Fit the plastic pipe in the brass pipe. If replacing plastic pipe, note that the new plastic pipe is longer and needs to be cut at the time of assembly. 14. Push the aluminium pipe over the plastic pipe & brass pipe till it is within 1 cm of the gun body face. 15. Apply oil (Lubricating oil) to the internal threads of the gun body and to the external threads of the aluminium pipe. 16. The oil is most essential to avoid cold welding of aluminium (pipe) to aluminium (Body). 17. Screw the aluminium pipe in the gun body. 18. Hold the gun body in bench vice with Hose Connectors facing down. Check that there is some gap between the Liquid Control Valve end of the body and top of the bench vice. 19. For HB 86 & HB 35 adjust the aluminium bend pipe such that the bend end of the pipe is facing the handle side of the body. 20. Tighten the lock nut of the aluminium pipe using side spanner size 15. 21. If new plastic pipe is fitted then cut the extra length using a sharp blade so that plastic pipe of length @2 3 mm is protruding from the aluminium pipe end.
