Composition Finish Theoretical Spreading Rate Practical Spreading Rate Zinc phosphate primer, based on an alkyd resin. Matt. At a dry lm thickness of 50 micrometres: 13.5m2/litre. In assessing a practical spreading rate, other factors such as shape of the construction, roughness of the substrate, method and conditions of application, should be considered. A guideline for spraying is: Large Areas: Approx 70% of theoretical coverage. Small Areas: Approx 50% of theoretical coverage. Drying Time Touch dry within 5 hours and recoatable after 12 hours at 20 C and 65% relative humidity. Minimum recommended application temperature 5 C. At lower temperatures and/or conditions of high relative humidity, drying periods will be extended. Washability Volume Solids Flammability Storage Resistant to washing and scrubbing. Clean with a mild detergent solution or white spirit to remove dirt and stains. Approximately 67%. 32 C. Keep in a cool, dry place.

Method Initial Procedure Thinning Brush: For best results use a long haired soft bristle brush. Apply one coat at 75m wet lm thickness. Stir well immediately prior to use. Brush: Ready for use. Do not thin.

Also suitable for application by air-assisted airless spray. The following information is given as a guide. Method Thinning Fluid Pressure Air Assistance Fluid Tip Angle Wet Film Thickness Dry Film Thickness Cleaning of Equipment Conditions of Application Air-assisted airless spray. Up to 5% (by volume) with Sikkens M600 Thinners. 2000-2350 psi (140-160 bar). Up to 45 psi (approx 3 bar). 0.015 (0.380mm). Dependent on size of substrate. 83 micrometres per coat. 50 micrometres per coat. Clean brushes and equipment in clean Sikkens M600 Thinners immediately after use. Do not apply if there is a risk of rain, or when air/substrate temperatures are below 5C during application or drying periods. The substrate temperature must be at least 3C above the dew point. Protect from frost and rain until dry. Sikkens Redox AK Primer must not be overcoated with Sikkens Onol Express Primer/Undercoat.

Preparation New Surfaces Preparatory products suitable for use with Sikkens Redox AK Primer include: Sikkens Solvent. The use of emulsion type cleaners followed by thorough water washing and rinsing should be used for removal of any oil or grease deposits. On-site degreasing by the use of white spirit is not recommended as it invariably leads to the spreading of contaminants over a wider area. This procedure should be carried out immediately prior to any other preparation or painting operation. System One coat of Sikkens Redox AK Primer within four hours of preparation. The period between coats should not exceed three months. Refer to the Speciers Guide to Rubbol Opaque Systems for full specication details. Finishes Finishing products suitable for use with Sikkens Redox AK Primer include: Sikkens Onol Primer/Undercoat, Sikkens Rubbol DSA and Sikkens Rubbol AZ. Maintenance Remove all loose or aking paint The following is applicable to both New Surfaces and Maintenance: All exposed metal areas that are seen to be exhibiting signs of corrosion products and foreign matter should be scraped, chipped and wire brushed to remove such contamination. Oil/grease and any other contaminants should be removed with Sikkens Solvent.
