JOB POSTING Childcare Assistant Supervisor

Job Purpose This position plays a leadership role in his/her team to organize and direct daily activities for children 5 to 12 years. She/he is actively engaged in assisting in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the program. The Assistant Supervisor will be given designated administration tasks that specifically pertain to this position. Working collaboratively and under the general direction of the Program Supervisor the Program Assistant Supervisor is the person who is in charge at their designated childcare site. Duties and Responsibilities Program Planning and Delivery Assists in planning, organizing and coordinating resources, equipment and supplies in order to ensure smooth delivery of the program Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with other community service providers Writes program reports, collects statistics and keeps other program related documentations in place Communicates and promotes program information both internally and externally

Staff and Volunteer Management Ensure the program is full by managing waitlists and program promotion Assists in actively participating in, orienting and coaching staff and volunteers of the program in consultation with the Program Supervisor Provides reference and guidance to staff and volunteers of the program in interpreting relevant policies and procedures Manages staff schedules and arranges backups to ensure the licensing/ratio requirement of the program Responsible for the safety and well being of the children enrolled in the program and provide leadership in ensuring best practices are met Develops and implements daily activities that support and promote the social, emotional and physical development of children as well as meeting their educational needs Knowledge of all licensing requirements for Out of School Care (OSC) programs. Primary contact for licensing for the site they are responsible for. Lead children in activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, demonstrating the use of simple musical instruments, preparing craft materials and demonstrating their use, providing opportunities for creative expression through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical fitness, and taking the children to local points of interest

Snack shopping, preparation and delivery (must be aware Food Safe requirements and practice good nutritional habits ) Ensure the safe keeping and proper use of KNH facilities and equipment, as well as host facilities and equipment in the delivery of the program Assess the skills, abilities, interests and needs of children (to be reflected in program planning ) Discuss progress of children with parents and other staff members by developing strong reciprocal relationships with parents. Daily communication with parents and other team members is required Monitor and maintain petty cash to purchase materials and snack for the program Responsible for checking phone messages and email Promote the KNH Childcare programs within the community Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other Kits House programs and local schools Keep up to date on all Kits House programs and share with OSC families. Keep accurate records of enrollment (attendance sheets, ensuring parent sign in/ out, field trip forms ) Write updated information about the program in the daily communication log book Attend meetings ( including but not exclusive to PAC and staff meetings ) and workshops to develop skill set and discuss new teaching methods or strategies

Qualifications o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o Post secondary education or 2 years related experience. Knowledge of VCH licensing regulations Valid First Aid Certification Minimum age 19 years ( as required by Child Care Licensing Regulations) Doctors Note of good health Vaccinations as required by licensing Successful criminal record check Strong planning, organizational, leadership and communication skills Ability to work in a multicultural, multi-programmed environment Ability to work co-operatively in a non-profit, volunteer based organization Creativity, enthusiasm, flexibility and a good sense of humor Ability to work flexible hours and participate in KNH special events Commitment to the Kits House mission, vision and statement of diversity Experience with special needs is an asset Second language is an asset Class IV license is an asset

Job Details: Salary: 16.11/hr + Benefits Schedule: 25hrs a week Expected Start Date: ASAP
