In Level Two, the skills and understanding you have acquired at Level One continue to be developed while new techniques of practice and wider areas of knowledge are introduced. As independent study is highly regarded at this level, you will take on a proactive and proficient approach towards learning. The teaching approach encourages you to be engaged and experimental to develop an understanding of design practice. You will respond to specialist briefs and develop your strengths through a variety of projects. At the end of it all, you have an option to exit at this level with a Diploma of Higher Education in Design Communication, or progress to level 3 - undertaking a formal interview and portfolio review process.

:: MODULEDESCRIPTION
This module continues your design development and individual critical approach to learning and making. It focuses on problem solving with conceptual approaches that involve looking into various methods of analysing and experimentation with visual forms and progressive ideas. You will look into developing your critical thinking skills and focus on the language of design communication. In this semester, you will select a specialism project that investigates into design issues related to interdisciplinary modes of communication, design methodologies and conceptual explorations. You will also experiment with unfamiliar ideas and challenge the creative thinking and process. Within the studio practice, you will continue to gain more exposure to experiential learning through LIVE projects or Industry talks, where you acquire to pick up industry-based knowledge and understanding from the creative professionals. This will allow you to engage meaning & concepts from professional practices into the studio projects. The Creative Process Journal (CPJ) document and describes the working practice and shows how you reflect upon the evolution and development of the creative concept. Producing a CPJ will help you to understand and evaluate upon your own creative practice. This will become a visual and textual record of your creative evolution as a thinker and

designer. In this way, you learn to describe, analyse, reflect and evaluate your own knowledge, experience and process. You may use a wide range of media to articulate the creative process, including e.g. image, text, interactive media or sound. Self-evaluation and peerevaluation are encouraged to help in the development of critical awareness of the creative process.

To enable you to undertake a specialised project that focuses on your creative and conceptual skills through a specialism brief. To enable you to broaden your professional practice knowledge & multiply your experience as a creative problem solver. To develop your understanding of the contextualisation of theory and practice and focus on the synthesis of relevant theories through discussions and project presentations.

This includes key demonstration of practical and technical skills acquired for the module. ** Creative Process Journal is an independent collation of the various design process and thinking, design research and idea generation to be archived in a practical book sized no smaller than A5. This CPJ should also include visual research and design materials that can be relevant to your design discussion and developments. Refer to student handbook for detailed marking criteria.

___PROJECTBRIEF
The act of design, from a laypersons perspective, more often than not, seems to be focused on the finished product or the contextualized solution. However, as design practitioners, we know that design not just about the final outcome, but an arduous process that involves stages of problem identification and research before ideation and creation. Prominent graphic designer Paul Rand makes a strong case for the value of research, stating, "ideas may also grow out of the problem itself, which in turn becomes part of the solution." The more we know about the area of interest or problem and the deeper we branch in related areas, the more dynamic the process of ideation and naturally, the more innovative and exciting the finished product. >>>PROJECT PLAN This semester acts as a precursor to BA Level 3 course by preparing students to address their identified areas of research interest. This semester 2s course will be focused on the value of research and the extensive inquiry into areas of research interest. Students will be given themes (see below) to begin with, along with several research materials to accompany each theme. They will then be required to respond to the themes by selecting an area of research interest or message that they would focus on. Moving on from there, students will build a repository of research into the chosen area of research. This bulk of information will then be designed in a way that clearly communicates their area of interest.

D&AD New Blood Awards 2014 entries (all specialisms) 2. TBC >>>ASSESSMENT METHODS: All project outcomes done for LIVE project will culminate into a well-designed booklet to be submitted for the Final Assessments. In addition, all design processes must be meticulously documented in your creative process journal. >>>FEEDBACK MECHANISMS: Weekly progress through contact hours >>>IMPORTANT: LIVE Projects class should not be a class where you just come in, mark your attendance and go off to do your individual stuff or run errands. This semester, you will dedicate your time to work on REAL, LIVE briefs, as part of industry-base learning, in D301; EVERY WEDNESDAY (unless otherwise stated), BETWEEN 2PM TO 5PM. All project briefs under LIVE Projects will be furnished according to the timeline, due to the nature of the class. Please check the learning portal on a regular basis for updates and important notices that require your attention/action.

All co-curricular activities, projects and assignments in this component will look into Industry-based Learning, which is present throughout your studies in the Design Communication programme. Hence, your outcomes will need to be cumulated in a printbased format (booklet) as advised to you by the lecturer-in-charge or otherwise depicted in this module guide. The mentioned format is required as part of your Final Assessment on Week 16. Refer to Page 7 of this document or the student handbook for more information pertaining to Assessment.
