Respect Life
You Shall Be Like Gods This original temptation, outlined in the first reading, was a promise that what was right and what was wrong would be up to us; that we could write our own moral law. Thats what the tree of the knowledge of good and evil meant, and why Adam and Eve couldnt eat from it. We are all called to know good from evil, but not to decide it. To think we decide it is the error of the pro-choice mindset. Its all up to me and my choice, even if it means killing a baby. In the culture of life, on the other hand, we live in the freedom of the children of God, and pattern our lives on the obedience of Jesus that leads to life eternal.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, My name is Deacon Marek Smolka. I am currently a Fourth Year Theologian at Mundelein Seminary where I am studying to become a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago. I was born in Poland in a beautiful, small village called Czarny Dunajec located in the southern part of Poland, close to Zakopane. My parents and I moved to the United States twelve years ago. I finished my elementary school in Poland, and during my years in elementary school, I always desired to attend Catholic School. So in 1999, I entered the Salesian Catholic High School. After one year of study there, my parents decided to move to the United States of America. In 2000, I moved with my family to the United States and continued my high school education. I graduated from Gordon S. Hubbard High School located on the South Side of Chicago in 2003. After high school, I decided to continue my education at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills by taking general courses before moving on to the University to get a degree in secondary education. In 2006 I became a certified catechist for the Archdiocese of Chicago. The years passed and I realized that God was calling me to the priesthood. In 2007, I applied to St. Joseph College Seminary located at Loyola University Chicago where I began the seminary formation program. In 2010 I graduated from St. Joseph College Seminary and applied to Mundelein Seminary. My home parish is St. Albert the Great in Burbank located in the South Suburbs of Chicago. I am very happy that Cardinal Francis George appointed me to St. Francis Borgia to do my deacon ministry. I hope that during my time here in this wonderful parish I will get to know all of you and my vocation will continue to grow to the priesthood by serving, helping and learning from the people in this parish. I am so happy to be with all of you and I am looking forward to meeting the whole family of St. Francis Borgia. Please pray for me and for my brothers in the ordination Class of 2014. God Bless you all!
