Thermocouple thermometer
Resistance thermometer
Description An electronic component known as the thermistor is used. Resistance in the thermistor decreases as temperature increases, so that a larger current indicates a higher temperature. Mercury-in-glass thermometer designed for measuring body temperature. There is a small bend near the bulb to prevent mercury from falling back after the thermometer is taken out of the mouth. This thermometer makes use of a bimetallic strip that consists of two strips of different metal joined together surface to surface. The strip bends as one metal expands more than the other under temperature change. As temperature increases, the coiled bimetallic strip bends more to rotate a pointer around on a scale. Mercury is placed inside a bulb at the bottom of a sealed narrow glass tube. When temperature rises, mercury expands and rises up in the narrow glass tube. It responds to temperature change quickly. It should be handled with care as mercury is poisonous. Wires made of two different metals are joined together to form two junctions. Temperature difference at the two junctions causes a potential difference across the circuit. A mircovoltmeter is used to record the potential difference. It is very sensitive and can measure a wide range of temperatures. It is commonly used in industry to measure the temperatures of ovens and furnaces. Electrical resistance of a metal wire increases as temperature increases,
Uses Used to check for the final cooking temperatures at the end of the cooking time.

so that a smaller current indicates a higher temperature. It can measure temperatures of over a thousand degrees Celsius and can be used in industry to measure the temperatures of ovens and furnaces. Colored and pressurized alcohol is placed inside a bulb at the bottom of a sealed narrow glass tube. When temperature rises, alcohol expands and rises up in the narrow glass tube. It responds to temperature changes slowly. Alcohol is nonpoisonous. The temperature measured by a thermistor is displayed digitally. It is usually used clinically to measure body temperature.
resistance of metals, as metals increase their resistance to electricity as they grow warmer.
Used to measure body temperature and it uses electronic means to provide a digital display of the temperature reading.
