A Word from Your Editors

A word from your editors: Hello all you wonderful Key Club members! Can you believe that the first month of 2014 is already over? Our club has been off to a great start and its thanks to all you! We would like to personally thank every single one of you guys for the participation and hard work. We hope that you all will keep up the enthusiasm throughout the remainder of this semester. Just a reminder that we are going to be accepting new members, so if you know anybody that would like to be a part of Key Club, we encourage them to join! Be sure to have them fill out a form that can be picked up in Mrs. Les room in 1158 and pay their dues of $25! For those who are on probation, please remember that you have until the end of this six weeks to complete your remaining hours! Keep in mind that the six weeks is already half over, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE finish your requirements; we would hate to lose any members. Also, for freshman members, you still have an opportunity to be a part of the Icebreaker Committee where you will be playing games, having fun, and brainstorming ideas to bring this club closer. As editors, Lauren and I want to showcase all of our hardworking members so starting next month we will be hand selecting a Key Clubber of the Month! This person will exemplify what Key Club truly stands for service, generosity, dedication, and enthusiasm! He or she will be interviewed by either Lauren or myself and be recognized on their own page in the newsletter! So show us what youve got! The officers have counted up the ballots for the Youve Been Keyed teacher and CONGRATULATIONS to MR. MUSTELL! At the next meeting we will be handing out sticky notes so that you can write some kind words about our recognized teacher! Whether you have him as a teacher or not, please participate by writing you rock! or youre awesome! or something along those lines! These notes will be displayed on his door to show our appreciation! -Kim and Lauren

What is DCON?
As some of you may have heard, DCON is coming up! Be sure to mark April 24-27 on your calendars so you guys dont miss out on this amazing experience! DCON (aka District Convention) is a fourday event that takes place in Dallas, Texas. Here, the Key Clubs from all around Oklahoma and Texas come together, celebrate service, and learn more about ways Key Club can help out their local communities. This is a fun-filled convention where you will gain a new perspective on how Key Club can benefit those locally and globally. Not only do you get the chance to gain leadership skills from this experience but also along the way you get to meet Key Clubbers from the Oklahoma and Texas regions! This years theme has been announced to be Get Hooked on Service! The theme, based on Peter Pan, will spread a whimsical feeling all throughout its attendees! You dont want to miss out on this years DCON! Save the date and start preparing for DCON 2014! It is definitely a convention to remember!

January's Events
Elmcroft Retirement Home, January 18 Also a huge thank you to all the members who went to the Elmcroft Retirement Home visit. This is the first time this year that we have done something like this, and it was such a great first experience. Not only did we enjoy the company of the elderly there, they appreciated us taking time out of our weekend to visit them. Simply making conservation and playing games with them makes their day. We hope to do an event like that again in the future. Theres nothing better than getting out there and offering our service to others. A truly heart-warming experience.

Houston Food Bank, January 18 Thank you to all of you who participated in our event at the Houston Food Bank! Like always, this event was a blast to be a part of! You all did so much for our community by helping out and feeding those in need, and we really appreciate all of your hard work. We will definitely continue to do events such as these in the future. If you have not yet gone to the food bank, we highly encourage you to do so because it is such a great, fun way to get your hours and help others.

Welcome our new Lieutenant Governor, Amy Jiang! On Sunday, January 25, we officers attended the district PCM where we discuss matters that involve all of the Key Clubs in our district. We also had the pleasure of voting on our new Lieutenant Governor who takes care of all the business in 3N. Congratulations to Amy Jiang! Youve earned it! We are looking forward to your term and expect great things from you! A big thank you to our current Lieutenant Governor, Gabi Bradshaw! You were truly wonderful, and you will be greatly missed.
