5.THE ACQUISITION OF MOVENPICK ICE-CREAMS

Nestle's acquisition raises a number of interesting questions about its likely entry into the premium domestic Indian ice-cream sector, through Movenpick which has a marginal presence in the country. Conversely, Nestle may also decide to wind up Movenpick's operations in India, which have been under the weather since their inception. The acquisition deal between Nestle and Movenpick does not include other Movenpick food businesses such as coffee, jams, chilled dairy products and wine nor the hotel and restaurant business, which will continue to be owned by the Movenpick group. In India, Movenpick had not been doing too well, since its product is expensive by Indian standards. The fate of premium ice-cream brands have been bleak in the country, with Blue Bunnies exiting the country. Movenpick has a limited presence in Chennai and Bangalore, with one boutique each in the two cities.

PORTFOLIO

Portfolio is a financial term denoting a collection of investments held by an investment company, hedge fund, financial institution or individual.[1]

The term portfolio refers to any collection of financial assets such as stocks, bonds, and cash. Portfolios may be held by individual investors and/or managed by financial professionals, hedge funds, banks and other financial institutions. It is a generally accepted principle that a portfolio is designed according to the investor's risk tolerance, time frame and investment objectives. The monetary value of each asset may influence the risk/reward ratio of the portfolio and is referred to as the asset allocation of the portfolio.[2] When determining a proper asset allocation one aims at maximizing the expected return and minimizing the risk. This is an example of a multi-objective optimization problem: more "efficient solutions" are available and the preferred solution must be selected by considering a tradeoff between risk and return.
