Course Description:
This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, desirable attitudes
and skills in the use of off-highway dump truck (articulated) in accordance with
industry standards. It covers core competencies such as: perform pre- and post
operation procedure, perform productive operation, and perform basic preventive
maintenance servicing on a given off-highway dump truck (articulated).

TRAINERS QUALIFICATION
HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATION (ARTICULATED OFF-HIGHWAY
DUMPTRUCK)
TRAINER QUALIFICATION (TQ II)
Must be a holder of Heavy Equipment Operation (Articulated offhighway dump truck) NC-II
Must have undergone training on Training Methodology III (TM III)
or its equivalent
Must be physically and mentally fit
Must have at least 5 years job/industry experience*
* Optional. Only when required by the hiring institution.

4.3 Assessment shall focus on the core units of competency. The basic and
common units shall be integrated or assessed concurrently with the core
units.

Definition of Terms
For the purpose of this Competency Standard, the words
1. Off-highway dump Truck Refers to articulated frame type of dump truck used for
[articulated]
loading and hauling different types of earth materials e.g.,
rocks, limestones, coal, etc.
2. Retarder brake
Refers to the control of speed to maintain safe downhill
operation.
3. Service brake
Refers to the control of speed to slowdown, and stopping
of dump truck.
4. Dump box
Refers to body structure where the loads are placed and
carried.
5. Steering
Refers to the mechanism that controls the dump truck
direction.
6. Hauling
Refers to the transfer of earth materials from loading area
to dumping site.
