Saint Michael Parish Mission Statement:

MASS SCHEDULE
GIRARD Sat. 5:30pm Sun. 10:00 am ARMA 4:00pm 8:00 am

We the parishioners of Saint Michael the Archangel, through leadership and strong traditions are faithful disciples of the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church. We commit ourselves to be generous stewards of our faith, our parish, and our community. We strive to involve all members to be united in one parish family for the salvation of all. Notes from the Pastor: MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE WEEK February 9-15 The Office of Marriage and Family Life of our diocese is encouraging the parishes to join in the celebration of Marriage and Family Life Week February 9-15, 2014. If you would like to know more or would like to join the diocesan activities, you may access their website at http:// catholicdioceseofwichita.org/mfl. This Sunday, February 9th is significant as we are celebrating World Marriage Day or ironically WMD! This is an annual event the goal of which is to honor husband and wife as the foundation of the family, the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life. In 1993, his Holiness, Pope John Paul II, imparted his Apostolic Blessings on World Marriage Day. WMD celebrations continue to grow and spread to more countries and faith expressions every year. Bishop Richard J. Malone (Buffalo, chairman of USCCB Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth) sent a letter to all U.S. bishops, saying that National Marriage Week, World Marriage Sunday, and Valentine's Day "provide an opportunity to celebrate the gift and blessing of marriage and to affirm and support engaged and married couples." In his letter, Bishop Malone recommends resources for dioceses and parishes to "continue to build a culture that honors and promotes marriage and the family." The following is a prayer for the Holy Family. It is an official translation of the prayer composed and recited by the Holy Father Pope Francis on Sunday, December 29 th 2013, the Solemnity of the Holy Family during the Angelus Prayer at St. Peters Square. He asked us to pray in union with the Church worldwide for the intention of the family and in preparation for the Third Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of the Bishops scheduled to take place from 5 to 19 October this year to treat the topic: The Pastoral Challenges to the Family in the Context of Evangelization. This is the least we can do to celebrate World Marriage Day and this Marriage and Family Life Week. Pray as a Next Sunday(02/16/14) 10:00 AM

This union also provides the best conditions for raising children--the stable, loving relationship of a mother and father present only in marriage. Then comes the question, What is marriage? It is even possible for two persons of We Thank our advertisers for their support! the same sex to be married? Using the terms same-sex marriage and gay marriage already assumes that marriage comes in a variety of forms. The Advance rightly adds, Put another way, the sexual difference and complementary roles of husband and wife are not something that is added to a pre-existing thing called marriage, like you might add sprinkles to a sundae! Instead these male-female complementary roles are at the very heart of marriage and part of its real definition! Adding alternative adjectives to the word, marriage (such as same-sex, or gay, etc) produces not another variety of marriage, but a different thing entirely. It radically alters marriages very nature or core. Marriage is, and can only be, the union of one man and one woman --a gift to be cherished & protected. Marriage is regulated by civil and church laws, but it didnt originate from either, but from God. And so neither church nor state can change its basic meaning and structure. Good point to remember!
