NOR NARJIHAH BINTI MUSLIM Praise to God for giving me a good health so that I could work on this Teaching

Listening and Speaking Skills in the Primary ESL Classroom assignment very well. In order to complete the tasks, I had faced a lot of challenges and I also experienced and learned many things. First thing first, from the Task 1 of the assignment, I have found that reading articles really help me to widen my knowledge. I realize that the knowledge and information that I get from the articles that I have read could help me to give an overview on what teaching listening and speaking is all about. I understand that teaching listening and speaking to the primary school children is not an easy task if I do not have the knowledge about this subject. Therefore, it is good for me to read articles about Teaching and Listening for Primary ESL Classroom. Next, during the process of completing the assignment, I actually had learned that it is very important to teach English to the primary school pupils. Since I was in the primary school, I found that my teacher have never done something to show English is fun and interesting. All I could remember, I only knew that English is about learning grammar, writing and a little bit of speaking skill. However, when I read some articles about Teaching Listening and Speaking Skills, I realize that it is very important to teach listening to the pupils. For example, I have read about the article about the sample of activities that could be used in Listening and Speaking lesson. Therefore, I could know some activities that are suitable for the pupils, such as storytelling, simulation and role play. Then, I will implement this knowledge in my lesson in the future. Other than that, since this semester is the first thing we are being exposed to building lesson plan, I now understand that every lesson should be well-planned. Throughout this assignment, especially while doing the Task 2; I try to create a lesson plan for Listening and Speaking lesson to be conducted in micro-teaching. This task really gives me the experience of doing a good lesson plan with the guide of my lecturer, Mr. Chan Seong Long, so that I would conduct a good lesson. I now realize that lesson plan is important since it is the guidance in order for us to keep on track on our lesson. For example, as I have stated that the time set for practice is 10 minutes, I have to keep on the time limit. Therefore, I would not interrupt the time set for the other stages. Then, this is how the objectives for the lesson will be achieved. Next, I realize that teaching is not an easy job since I learned that being a teacher means I have to face different characteristics of pupils. While start doing the microteaching, I

was very nervous till I felt that my confidence was at the lowest level. This is because when I saw the pupils in my class, I could see that they were different from each other. I saw some were not facing me and some were doing other things in my class. I understood that I had to attract them so that they will pay attention towards me. Then I knew it is so hard for my teachers back then, dealing with their students. Therefore, I should try to be very confident to deal with the pupils in class. Lastly, I realize that innovation is needed in teaching so that I could create fun and interesting lesson. I found that I could apply what I had thought while I sit on the students desk to improve my teaching. For example, I think that teaching Listening and Speaking will be more interesting and exciting if there are actions involved in my lesson. Therefore, I feel that implementing some activities could attract the pupils to engage with the lesson. So now I understand that teacher should be more creative and innovative to deal with kids nowadays. In conclusion, this assignment has taught me a lot. I realize now that everything that I do will reflect my future. Therefore, if I am trying hard to be a better teacher-to-be, it is not possible I could be a great teacher in the future.

NOR NARJIHAH BINTI MUSLIM Praise to God for giving us the chance to complete our micro-teaching. Not to forget, to my lecturer, Mr. Chan Seong Long, who always gives my friends and I guidance and help in order to finish our micro-teaching. Throughout our macro-teaching process, I have found that our lesson is very interesting. This is because I could see some of my friends, who act as pupils, very excited to involve with the lesson. The activity conducted was simple and quite childish, but they still could cooperate very well since they enjoyed it very much. For example, when we showed the video about animals like giraffe, monkey and elephant to them, they were very eager to watch it. The video actually could attract the pupils interest towards the lesson. Therefore, the used of fun and enjoyable video like that really help us to make them interested to get involve with the lesson. Next, I could also see that our macro-teaching has a few weaknesses. One of them is the teaching aids used are quite confusing. This is because, we taught the pupils about hippo, however, in the worksheet, we had mistakenly typed the word rhinoceros. The mistake like this is very dangerous since the pupils might have the difficulty to answer the task sheet given. They may write the wrong answer and the objectives of the lesson would not be achieved. Then, I could also see that the word cards used are quite small in size. The fonts used are also not big enough for the pupils at the back to see. I have to move from one table to another to show the flashcards, so that all of them could see. This will interrupt the time limit for the other stages. Therefore, in order for us to improve the macro-teaching, I think we should make some changes with our teaching aids. I have learned that I should always check on my teaching aids, so that every time I conduct a lesson, there will not be any mistakes on them. Teaching aids are very important as they help us to conduct a clearer lesson. If there is mistake on them, the pupils might be confused or even worse; they may not understand the lesson conducted. Then, I have realized that the fonts size is very essential because they could help pupils to see the words better. If they could read the words on the flashcards, it would be very easy for teachers to conduct a lesson. Therefore, I understand that the fonts size of our flashcards should be bigger. In conclusion, to conduct a lesson is not an easy task for a teacher, but I know that I have to teach the pupils well. Even though there are some lackings in the macro-teaching that has been conducted, I would take them as references, so that I will not repeat the same mistakes in the future.
