Since then several new requirements have been added, such as the losses arising in stray magnetic field, resonance phenomena due to oscillating switcting over- voltages, the survey of mechanical design, the review of main accessories, ct. By arranging for publication of this English edition, Elsevier Science Publishers and ‘Akadémiai Kiadé have made it possible for us to include these requirements in the text In particular, we appreciate their understanding of the problers related to the inclusion of the latest R&D results in transformer engineering. In 1985, the 100th anniversary of the invention of the transformer and its parallel operation was celebrated by almost all the leading manufacturers of the ‘world at an international meeting in Budapest, ‘The authors dedicate this book to the memory of those experts from all over the world who, through 100 years of continuous development, contributed to the present state-of-the-art of transformer engineering. Chapters 1-3 were written by Dr. K. Karsai, Chapters 4 and 5 by Dr. D. Keré- ayi, and Chapters 6 and 7 by Dr. L. Kiss.
