Gender - Male Age - 16-24 Social class Working Class Ethnicity Afro-Caribbean/White Stereotypical Interests Partying, Drugs, Urban Fashion, Music, Basketball Why they listen to hip hop they listen to it as it reflects the black prospective of life; it deals with problems and aspects which the audience can relate to. It also gives them hope into achieving more in life. How often they listen to the music very frequently as it plays a big part in modern society. What they would like in magazines information on the biggest artists around at the current time, news on fashion, news on the industry. I gathered a group of 4 people who are a part of the stereotypical audience for this magazine and asked their opinions on my potential names for the magazine and what exactly they would look for in a magazine. The four boys I asked were all interested in the genre. I asked; Billy Green Rory Oakley Byron Samuels Theo Robinson Summary of results Section 1 Front Cover Front cover - what images would appeal to you as an audience? The image should be central and eye catching to draw the audience in. it should have a figure with an aggressive or moody look representing the genre. The image could be of white ethnicity to subvert the general stereotypes of the hip hop industry. Their outfit it should also contrast with the background colour. What else should be on the front cover, in terms of copy etc.? My focus group concluded that the front cover should contain sell lines relating to current big artists that would appeal to a wide range of audience (male and female, different ethnicities) such as Drake or Kanye West. What colour scheme? As it is a hip hop magazine, the colours should be simple yet provide a serious aura such as black and white. This reflects the genre in terms of its seriousness.

Section 2 Contents Page How many images and what should the images be of on the contents page? There should be 3 or 4 images on the contents page and they should represent what is contained throughout the magazine, fashion etc. There should also be an editorial in the terminal area. What should the magazine contain? News, Gossip etc. The magazine should contain lots of information to do with the hip-hop industry, such as news on artists, information on the latest album releases and concerts. But it should also contain different elements such as fashion news to attract a wider audience. It should all be clearly stated on the contents page. Section 3 Double Page Spread What images should be on the page? However many images are used, they should reflect the industry and the artists style. The artist should be shown to look confident and important. One image would be best, having the artist on one page and the article on the other. More images or more text? There should be an even balance between the text and images and should be portrayed across both pages evenly and neatly making it look more professional and more appealing. What should the article be about? It should be an interview with a rising artist, someone who has blew up overnight. They should be the generic teen nothing special to make it relatable. It should also give an insight to what the artist is like.
