Tapestry House Assisted Living

Dear Friends and Family, I hope everyone had a wonderful first month of 2014 and survived the snow storm last week! We have kicked off 2014 with some exciting additions. Some of you have met our new Maintenance Director, Steve Spence; he is a wonderful addition to our team and comes with plenty of experience, he used to work for Marriott Hotels. Steve also is a proud father of four daughters! We are so glad to have him here. We also have a new Dining Services Director, Jamey Dyer. He can prepare anything from great southern style meals to fine dining. He has already brought so much joy to our community! We have started a few new activities with the New Year. We have Coffee Shop Short Stories, some new exercise weights and bands for our growing exercise classes, a new

We thought wed share a bit about our Snow Jam 2014 experience! -Gordon and Molly
called Tapestry House and told them wed be probably be an hour but we were fine. At 2:00 we hadnt moved but a half mile and stopped at a gas station to get some water, just in case. At 3:30 I bet Gordon we would be home by dinner. At 6:30 we had finally made it four miles. 7:30 we were on Holcomb Bridge, 8:00 we hadnt moved five feet, and I started crying! At 8:30 we decided to turn around in the Home Depot parking lot and head to a friends house on Old Alabama. We thought surely the traffic would clear and in about an hour we could try again, we were wrong. So Gordon Everyone gets excited about snow, Right!? Since the chances of seriously accumulation were slim to none we continued with our normal daily routine at Tapestry House. We took the correct precautions needed, we had and I made peanut butter sandwiches and had to spend the night. The next morning after coffee, pancakes, eggs, and bacon we loaded into a four-wheel drive truck and went down Old Alabama, which was covered in snow, wrecked and abandoned vehicles, and made it to Gordons sons house! It was quite an adventure but I think we were both so excited to be home safe and sound!

Winter Weather
Brrr---The north wind doeth blow, we soon will have snow. The poet is right about one thing: The north wind does blow. The weather man is so frequently wrong; were tempted to pay him no attention. But hes right about one thing- winter is here! Temperatures have plummeted, our warm coats are welcomed, sneezes and sniffles are back in full blast. Our brilliant leaves have left us again (we had plenty of them at Tapestry House.) Now we are faced with dreary often depressing winter days. Lets look at it another way! While we fret, Mother Nature is quietly getting ready for spring. Could we in some way A special thank you to those volunteers who work to bring the sunshine in weekly, with their fun activities and those beautiful flower arrangements that brighten the entire building! bring nature inside? Toby Israel, PhD and author of Some Place like Home, believe that we are wired to be attracted to things that are alive. So why not get a beautiful flower to brighten your apartment? If you are limited for space, a blooming African violet would work. If your limited for sunlight, try a plant light, it makes a perfect night light as well.

EXTRA staff to spend the night, bought some air mattresses and extra blankets, our chef spent the night, and our maintenance director bought ice melt and added some extra protection to our pipes. We were Super prepared! Gordon and I headed off to a routine Audiologist appointment at 11:30 and there were some tiny snow flurries. I told Gordon that I just hope there is enough snow to at least to play in for a few hours tonight! He laughed at me because I was acting like a little girl hoping school was cancelled! We left his appointment about an hour later and were in shock Cars everywhere! At 1:30 I
