Wildcats Scalp Indians In 4 Overtimes


CAMANCHE The Durant boys basketball team proved last Monday that they are going to be a tough out in the class 2A postseason this year after beating a good Camanche team 71-62 in four overtimes. Durant enters the postseason winners of two of their last three games including the win over the Indians. Durant led 7-0 after the first quarter and 13 to 6 at halftime. Camanche rallied in the third quarter with a 13-5 run to tie the score at 19 heading to the third quarter. Each team scored 15 points in the fourth quarter as the score was knotted at 34 after regulation. The score was tied at 43 after the first overtime and 50 after the second. Each team scored just three points in the third overtime as the score was 53 all heading to a fourth extra overtime. In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats outscored the Indians 18 to 9 to take the game by nine points. The Wildcats were led by two players who scored 20 or more points in the game. Seniors Alex Rouse and Von Glaser scored 23 and 20 points respectively. Rouse completed a double-double with a team high 13 rebounds. Drew Lilienthal also had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Seth Boysen had 14 points and Tanner Atkinson had 11 in the loss.

Knights Get Overtime Win Over Bears


CLARENCE The North Cedar girls basketball team won their second game in a row as the regular season has ended for the Knights after a 38-35 overtime win over West Branch last Thursday. North Cedar outscored the Bears 9 to 6 in the extra time to pull out the three-point victory. North Cedar improved to 9-12 with the win and improved their record to 4-2 against RVC South teams this season. West Branch held a 10-4 lead after the first quarter, but an 0-for-8 stretch to start the second quarter allowed the Knights to get back into the game by halftime, taking an 15 to 14 halftime lead. West Branch again pulled out to a lead by the end of the third quarter 25 to 21, but North Cedar outscored the Bears 8 to 4 in the final quarter, including the tying basket, a lay-up by Alison Malaby, with just under 30 seconds left in regulation. In the overtime period, North Cedar outscored West Branch by three, 9-6. In the overtime period North Cedars Jordan Bendixen and Haley Poula of West Branch each scored four points after being held scoreless in the four previous quarters. Malaby had a game high 18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 assists to lead North Cedar. Emily Flockhart had 6 points while Steph Jones had 4 points and 4 rebounds. Maddy Russell had a team high 8 points for West Branch while Ashley Finnegan and Haley Mullinix each had 7 for the Bears.

Knights Rout Bears In RVC Regular Season Finale CLARENCE The North Cedar boys basketball team set the tone early and cruised to a 63-47 victory in their River Valley Conference regular season finale. The Knights finished the regular season with a 18-4 overall record and will play next week in the 2A postseason tournament. North Cedar raced out to a 22-4 lead after one quarter which essentially decided the basketball game. The Bears rallied for 10 points in the second quarter, but North Cedar kept pace with 11 points of their own to put the halftime score at 33-14. Both teams offenses picked up in the third quarter, but North Cedar outscored the Bears 19 to 16 in the quarter in taking a commanding 52-30 lead into the final quarter. West Branch showed some fight late, going on a 16-2 run in the final quarter, but it was too little, too late. Grant Pruess had a team high 17 points off the bench for North Cedar while Jayden Johnson scored 14 and Seth Hamilton had 10.

Wildcats Enter Postseason On 3-Game Winning Streak


CAMANCHE The Durant Wildcat girls basketball team got a big boost heading into the postseason with a 3829 upset win at Camanche. There, the Wildcats led 12-8 after the first quarter and didnt look back. The Wildcats outscored the Indians in three of the four quarters and did not trail after any of the quarters. Durant held a 23-16 halftime lead after an 11-8 run in the second quarter. Durant took their biggest lead after three quarters, 32-20, after outscoring Camanche 9-4 in the quarter. Courtney Ralfs recorded a doubledouble with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the game to lead Durant in both categories. Shannon Telsrow scored 10 and had 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Lindsey Grams had 12 and Julia Moore 8 in a losing effort for the Indians. Durant held Camanche leading scorer Kylie Vogel (11.1 ppg) to no points on 0-for-7 shooting in the game. Durant finished the regular season with a record of 10-11 and winners of their last three regular season basketball games.

Rough Road Trip For Tigers


WASHINGTON The Tipton basketball teams traveled through the snow on Saturday, February 8 to Washington and came away with two losses to the Demons. The Tiger girls lost 51-31 despite the third straight double-double put up by senior Jill Kofron and the Tiger boys lost 71-62 after first quarter deficit had them fighting from behind all night. Kofron scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds for the Tiger girls team. Tipton trailed 12-11 after the first quarter, but were outscored 24 to 1 in the second quarter, essentially sealing the game. Stephanie Fishback had a team high 13 points for Washington. The Tiger boys fought back from a tough first quarter that saw them trail 24-6 after one quarter. Tipton went on to outscore washington 56-47 in the final three quarters, but, could get no closer than the final score. Matt Pelzer had a team high 18 points while Mark Becker scored 12 points off the bench. Gage Redlinger had 19 and Thomas Bump 18 for Washington.

Beavers Fall In Regular Season Finale


WILTON Competing with a Regional Wrestling Tournament in the same building, the Wilton girls basketball team moved their game to another gym for their final regular season game with Columbus Junction. The Beavers however, came up on the short end of a 53-45 ball game. Wilton fell behind 14-9 after one quarter, but used an 11-3 run in the second quarter to take a narrow two-point, 19-17 halftime lead. The Wildcats regained the lead in the third quarter, outscoring Wilton 15-10 before widening the gap with a 21-15 run in the final quarter. Olivia Reifert had a double-double in the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead Wilton. The Wildcats held Wilton guard Grace Austin to only 3 points on 1-of-6 shooting in the game. Sam Kokjohn scored 9 points while Jenna Brammeier and Hannah Christensen each had 6. Wilton had no answer for Columbus Junction guard Martha Anaya. Anaya made seven field goals and converted 13 of her 14 free throws for a game high 27 points.
