CreatingDiscovererConnections

InordertousetheDiscovererapplication,eachusermustfirstcreatetheirindividuallink(s)tothetool.Thissetupis
performedonceperresponsibility.

Eachconnectionwillallowadifferentlevelofaccessandoutput.Tocreateyourpermanentconnection,clickonthe
CreateConnectionbutton.

Discoverer login details are saved automatically when you create a connection. From then on, you can start
DiscoverersimplybyclickingonaconnectionnameintheDiscovererconnectionslistthatisdisplayedwhenyourun
Discoverer.

Tocreateaconnection,youmustenterspecificinformationinordertoaccessthedatabaseandrunreports.

ConnectTofieldpertainstothetypeofdata
youwouldliketoaccess.SelectOracle
ApplicationsasallreportsrunofftheOracle

Enteraconnectionnamebywhichyouwantto
identifythenewconnectionintheNamefield.

TheSelectOracleApplicationsResponsibilitypageisnowlaunched.

Discoverer reports are linked to Oracle responsibilities. You must enter specific information in order to access the
database in order to run reports: by country or region (US, EMEA); by business area (T&E, General Ledger).

Inthisscreen,DiscovererconfirmstheparameterspreviouslyenteredandrequiresyoutoselectaResponsibility.

SelectaResponsibilityfromthedropdownlist.

ClickonContinuebutton.

Discoverer responsibilities follow a standard naming


conventionthatcontains:

Companyname;

CountryorRegion;

Typeofdata

E.g.:MARGBLDISCOVERERGLUSER
orGCGBLDISCOVERERAPUSER

If you do not find the relevant Discoverer


responsibility, please follow your local support
procedureandcontacttheServiceDesk.

If the user name has access to more than one End
User Layer, the Select End User Layer page is
displayed.

SelectanEndUserLayerfromthedropdown
list.

ClickontheContinuebutton.

All new Discoverer reports that have been delivered


aspartofthePhaseIIprojectarelocatedwithinthe
MMCEULGBLEndUserLayer.

IfyoudonotknowwhichEULtoselect,pleasefollow
yourlocalsupportprocedureandcontacttheService
Desk.

YourconnectionhasbeencreatedandyouwillbepromptedbacktotheDiscovererconnectionworkbench.
Youwillnowbeabletoseeallconnectionsyouhavecreated.

LaunchingaDiscovererConnection

Click the Connection hyperlink to launch the


Discovererapplication.

If this is the first time you are connecting to


Discoverer on the PC, Java (software for running
Discoverer Plus) will be automatically downloaded
ontothePC.Thismaytakeacoupleofminutes.

ClicktheAlwaysbuttonwhenasked.

YoucaneditaDiscovererconnectionwhenyouwanttochangethelogindetailsstoredforthatconnection.

Forexample,asperSOXrequirements,yourOraclepasswordexpiresevery90daysandneedstobechanged.Once
youhaveperformedthischangewithinOracleyouwillalsoneedtoupdateitwithintheDiscovererapplication.

ClickthepenciliconintheUpdatecolumnnext
tothenameoftheconnectionthatyouwantto
edit.

TheEditConnectionpageisdisplayed.

Changetheconnectiondetailsasrequired(e.g.
password)
ClickonApplybutton
SelectagaintheResponsibilityattachedtothe
connectionyouareupdating.
ClickonApplybutton
SelectagaintheEndUserLayerattachedtothe
connectionyouareupdating.

YoushouldnowbepromptedbacktotheDiscovererconnectionsworkbench.

PointstoNote

Sometimes, when launching an Oracle Discoverer connection, you may face the error message illustrated in the
screenshot below. The error message indicates that your login details are invalid (username/password). In most
cases,itisrelatedtothefactthatyourpasswordinOraclehaseitherexpiredorhasbeenchangedrecently.

ClickthepenciliconintheUpdatecolumnnext
tothenameoftheconnectionthatyouwantto
edit..

TheEditConnectionpageisdisplayed.

Change the connection details as required

Sometimes,afterlaunchingadiscovererconnection,noreportsareavailablefortheusertorun.Thisisnormallydue
toanincorrectsetupoftheconnection:invalidresponsibilityorinvalidEULselectedduringtheconnectionsetup.

LaunchingaDiscovererConnection

Access to Discoverer reports is achieved through


connections. Each connection provides access to
reportssplitby:

BusinessArea:GeneralLedger,T&E

Geography:Region,Country,SetOfBooks

ClickontheConnectionyouwanttolaunch.

TheDiscovererViewerapplicationislaunchedasa
newwebbrowserwindow.

ThelistofDiscovererworkbooksperBusinessAreaisavailablethroughtheDiscovererReportsListingdocument.

Query/Select a report through the Name

Pointyourcursoronthereportyouwanttorun
andclickontheOpenbutton.

Remarks:

Workbooks are Discoverer files that


contain worksheets displaying data
retrieved from the database. Worksheets
containthedatathatyouwanttoanalyze,
together with a number of Discoverer
components to help you analyze the data.
If you are familiar with spreadsheet
applications(e.g.MicrosoftExcel),thinkof
a workbook as a spreadsheet file and
worksheets as different sheets in that
spreadsheetfile.

If a workbook contains multiple


worksheets, you can directly open the
worksheetyouwanttorunbyusingthe+
symbol.

Discovererviewerisconfiguredinawaythat
offerstheuseralistofallworkbooksavailableinthe
responsibilityassociatedwiththeselected
connection.

BeforeaDiscovererworkbookcanrun,inputparametersneedtobespecifiedtodefinethescopeofthequery.

Note: Some reports may not require any input parameters to be specified. The query will be submitted to the
databaseoncetheworkbookisopened.

Complete all required parameters fields


(followedbythe*symbol).

TheFlashlighticonindicatesthatalistofvalues
is available for the parameter. (See Points to
NoteSectiononPage9).

The parameter description box provides


guidelines on the parameter (e.g. specific date
format).

Click on the GO button to submit the query

againstthedatabase.

Use the Actions menu located on the left hand side of the Discoverer Viewer window to export data using the
defaultssettings:

Exported Discoverer files have the same name as the Discoverer workbook followed by the file type (e.g.
.xls;.htm).

WhenopeningtheMicrosoftExcelfile,theSecurityWarningdialogboxappearsandaskstheuserswhattodo
withthemacrosincludedinthefile.SelecttheDisableMacrosoption.

OncetheExcelworksheetisdisplayed,clickonFileandsavetheworksheetinthedesiredlocation.

PointstoNote

Sometimes, when exporting Discoverer workbook data, certain messages popup. These usually refer to files with
identicalfilenamesalreadyinexistencewithinthedirectoryselected.

ClickonYestooverwritetheexistingfilewiththenewone.

Note:IfyougetthefollowingmessageafterselectingtheYesoption,itmeansthattheexistingfileiscurrentlyopen.
Closeitandrestarttheexportprocessagain.
