Buckingham Friends School (BFS) promotes the best interests of the child within the context of the Schools philosophy, mission, and Quaker Testimonies. BFS is in search of an Accelerated Math Teacher for 6th grade Pre-Algebra, Algebra 7 and Advanced Algebra in 8th grade. This position is part time and the status may increase depending upon the Schools needs and candidates strengths. For example, there are coaching openings. Candidates should have a Masters in Education, 3-5 years of age relevant classroom experience and an interest in promoting their own professional growth. BFS faculty members model values in and out of the classroom that the School espouses to support the best interests of children. Teachers enjoy considerable latitude in designing their course content and determining their teaching styles within the context of agreed upon curricula and principles that

serve children in the School. BFS faculty are enthusiastic and committed to the calling of teaching. The following is an outline of the major responsibilities of teachers at the school and, specifically, Accelerated Math Teacher. - Collaborate with colleagues and the Schools leadership in the design and implementation of curriculum and other programs within the Schools philosophy and be receptive to the involvement of others in their work. - Possess a thorough knowledge of their subjects in the teaching assignment and stay current with best practices in the field through workshops, courses, graduate work, and reading. - Maintain a nurturing and professional atmosphere through enthusiastic and positive regard for all students and their subjects. - Represent the high standards the School tries to instill in young people though daily implementation of the Quaker Testimonies and the Schools mission. - Model integrity, curiosity, responsibility, effort, creativity and respect for all persons as well as an active appreciation for learning, ethnic, cultural, religious and gender diversity. - Conduct sessions in such a way that meets the philosophy, practice, and techniques as defined by the Schools mission statement, faculty committees, Administration and the Head of School. - Employ a variety of techniques suitable to the age and needs of students and the subject matter such that each child feels understood, nurtured and challenged. - Identify, monitor, and help solve student, curricular, and school problems and bring issues to appropriate colleagues, Specials Coordinator, and the Administration - documenting issues in timely and effective ways.

- Be a positive presence in the School, attending to and responding to others during the school day as needed (students and faculty who may need help making decisions) and attending students extracurricular events (plays and sports), as well as Back to School Nights, conference days, graduation and other community events. - Practice professional discretion concerning comments about students, faculty and parents; support the School, colleagues and leadership, in public, private, and in practice, regarding decisions that are made by the School and the Administration. - Offer differences of opinion through speaking and writing honestly and carefully, by listening fully, all while choosing the appropriate place to do so. - Welcome supervision, formal and informal, as a method of growth within the context of clearly defined and well-communicated evaluation criteria. - Communicate effectively, articulately and professionally with parents, colleagues and supporting professionals through writing report comments, emails or by phone and conference as needed beyond required intervals. - Order teaching materials within procedural and budgetary guidelines. - Promote equity and justice by creating a community that fosters an integration of Quaker spiritual life in the classroom and in the School. - Complete all professional duties promptly including: arrival to school, meetings, duties, conferences, classroom and student supervision.

- Promote safety with knowledge of safety protocols as outlined in the Emergency Preparedness Handbook. Participate in emergency drills and be certified in CPR and First Aid. - Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School. Accelerated Math Teacher: Select students for Accelerated Math with the collaborating teacher. Serve as a resource person for administrators, classroom teachers, parents and students to improve the instruction of math in the upper grades with the evaluation of on-going programs and recommend materials to aid instruction in areas of math during ongoing curricular reviews. Assist administrators and teachers in interpreting student assessment/evaluation information and recommend intervention strategies.
