Underground City

Invisible threads are the strongest ties. - Friedrich Nietzsche Seeing invisible things is an art and the beauty the art illustrates is a glorious vision. The vision can sometimes aerial and sometimes its subterranean, but its the art thats inconspicuous which raises determination. Whether its lost cities underground or the stars in the space its the unseen art which becomes a vision. Emperors and Civilizations established architectural visions which are still mind boggling. Currently it is Mahendraparvata in Cambodia which was an undetectable vision. A city underground, a city with a lost civilization and covered by a mountain over a millennium years old exposed from the sky makes it more provocative. Its an invisible city which embraces a strong tie to the past. LiDAR - Remote sensing technology that measures distance by illuminating a target with a laser and analyzing the reflected light. Angkor Wat the temple built in the 12th century, a marvel of the Khmer architecture. Based on the ideals of Buddhism and Hinduism the temple is dedicated to Vishnu and its an emblem on the Cambodian flag. However its the network of roads, canals which have been uncovered that surround the Angkor Wat which represent the strong ties to the past. All suspicions of a city being hidden under the shade of the vegetation atop Phnom Kulen mountain came to a rest and uncharted temples arose. In April 2012 Australian archeologists used equipment from a helicopter and bisected the entire forest from a helicopter to get a detailed outline of the area. Dissecting the forest from 2700 feet in the air for multiple days uncovered an ancient city. The lost civilization of the Mahendraparvata is theorized to be extinct because of the deforestation and lack of water. Firing laser pulses from an aircraft to the ground and creating a detailed three-dimensional map of the area based on the distance measurements is an interesting device. Being applied in Archeology, Geology and several other sciences the LiDAR assisted in the finding of a lost city. The question to ponder is can it detect another lost city, a city which is considered as one of the wonders of the world. Petra the Rose City, one of the most beautiful and oldest cities in the world which represents Jordan isnt fully discovered. The city which was advanced beyond their time, a city with its rock-cut architecture and the control of water supply made it an artificial oasis. Petra the home of Nabataeans innovated the city to survive Flash floods through proper water storage, transport and irrigation systems. Flash floods were controlled by Dams, Water Conduits and Cisterns. Petra had a symbolic role in the international trade market at its peak and got the attention of the Roman Empire. Relinquish of power from the Native dynasty didnt impede the growth until the prominent raise of Sea route. With multiple earthquakes, lack of maintenance and the rise of trade of through the seas led to the steady decline of the city. It lost its stability in the international market and became immaterial. Yet being an historical site excavation continues and only 15 percent of the city has been uncovered. The untouched 85 percent of Petra can have more undiscovered ties. Cambodia, Jordan are two countries with invisible threads with undiscovered ties, what other places and countries can you think of?
