ACT Government Branding Guidelines March 2011 3
1. Introducton
In May 2011, the ACT Government decided that common branding would apply to the ACT Government.
These guidelines have been developed to help directorates and ACT Government organisatons ensure the
logo design is consistently applied to achieve a uniform brand.
The ACT Government logo presents a single, recognisable brand for the Government, making it easier
for the public, visitors and investors to recognise the ACT Governments products, services and enttes,
and distnguish them from other levels of government, such as the Australian Government, and from the
private sector.
It reminds us, as public sector employees, who we are working for the ACT Government and ultmately
the people of the ACT, rather than a division, unit or directorate.
Enquiries about the applicaton of branding should be directed to the Chief Minister and Cabinet
Communicatons and Engagement Unit, email branding@act.gov.au or phone 62076457.
If you need new corporate statonery, this can be ordered from Publishing Services, phone 62050256.

2. Design elements
Format
The ACT Government logo includes the ACT Coat of Arms surrounded by a circle with the words
ACT Government beside or below the circle. A wordmark has also been developed to acommodate
situatons where the logos recommended minimum size can not be achieved.

The Logo
The ACT Government logo will be supplied as a graphic. All versions and applicatons of the logo shown
will be created and supplied with TEXT elements converted to outlines. The end user will not require any
additonal fonts to use the logos supplied or to implement the brand. Logos may not be modifed in any
way to ensure brand consistency.
Supportng Fonts
The wordmark used in the logo should be unique, consistent and identfable. For these reasons the
typeface chosen for the wordmark and directorate identfers is not a common font. The logo and all
directorate versions will be supplied along with this guide. The logos supplied should not be modifed in
any way and no directorate should atempt to generate their own version of the logo.
A suite of working templates will also accompany this guide. The suite of working templates will utlise the,
Microsof Ofce compatble, Calibri font to ensure consistency across the government in print and online.
Please see Appendix 1 for samples of the working templates.

3. How to apply the ACT Government logo?
Positon
The ACT Government logo should always have prominence over and above other images and graphic
elements.
An isolaton zone has been established to ensure that the integrity of the design is not jeopardised through
crowding. The dimension x is equal to the height of the ACT and is an applicable proporton at any scale.
This dimension x is used to determine the isolaton zone area.
Size
The minimum recommended size that the logo should be applied can be determined by the outside
diameter of the circular element of the logo. The dimension should be no smaller than 15mm diameter. This
recommendaton is a guide to avoid reproducton issues and to ensure that the details of the crest and the
wordmark ACT Government remain clear in print and on screen (see diagram below).
In exceptonal circumstances only the absolute minimum size that the logo is to be used is 10mm diameter.
The logo should only be used at this size in instances where it is printed in 100% black (cyan 0, magenta 0,
yellow 0, black 100) on white coated stock or in 100% PMS 293 on a white coated stock. The logo should
never be used at this size when reversed or in press advertsing where uncoated stocks, dot gain and
registraton can produce unpredictable results.
The above recommendatons apply to every design form, variaton, and all applicatons of the
ACT Government logo.

In situatons where the minimum recommended logo size can not be achieved the Small Wordmark version
of the logo should be used. This wordmark is available as a graphic and should be used no smaller than 18mm
wide, or 100% of the supplied wordmark size, as shown below.

Watermark
The logo should only be used in watermark format if the entre crest and associated wording are visible and
the design is not rotated. None of the design should be cropped from the compositon.
A tnt of 15% is the recommended minimum tnt for the watermark.

The co-branded confguraton can be used in black or colour as shown below and the size of the

Examples of co-branding with the wordmark version of the logo
In some circumstances using the preferred dual logo co-branding confguraton does not work. These
circumstances include situatons where there is insufcient space to accommodate the preferred
co-branding confguraton at the minimum recommended sizes.
In those cases, using the wordmark version of the ACT Government logo in associaton with an authorised
logo is permissible. In those cases, only the main co-brand logo and the ACT Government wordmark are to
appear together. No other taglines are to be used when the wordmark version of the logo is applied.
