P urpose: to share w ith math educators how technology can enhance instruction using an example of my iB ook on the Triangle S um T heorem. P hase II: P ractice S econdary M ath M ethods students create Geometry iB ooks. S tudents implement iB ooks w ith public high school students. P urpose: to determine if iB ooks technology helps to increase students mathematics achievement.

Free software that can be downloaded on mac computers.

You create an iBook on a mac computer using this software and then view it in iBooks on an iPad.
Similar to Keynote & PowerPoint with a distinguishing feature being interactive widgets.

Lesson on the Triangle Sum Theorem. 7 th Grade We chose not to include much text because of the topic, but some look much more like a traditional textbook. You can personalize it for your audience.

How can iBooks be used as a viable pedagogical tool for secondary mathematics instruction?

Yes, it is does in theory meet the standards for being the next viable pedagogical instrument. HOWEVER, it is one tool not the only tool.

CONCLUDING REMARKS
These features can spark ideas for resources that can be used across a variety of mediums to encourage best practices in the classroom . iBooks can be created to share information in other fields as well. The possibilities are endless . Effective teaching requires continuing efforts to learn and improve. These efforts include learning about mathematics and pedagogy, benefiting from interactions with students and colleagues, and engaging in ongoing professional development and self- reflection.
