1. Explain and justify the need for a solution for a specified client/end user.

My challenge that I have been set, is to design an educational interactive diagram that will teach a specific audience about my diagram. My end user or target audience will be students that are grades 1-3 because it kind of depends what they are doing in school. Actually it could be for anyone interested, but I will narrow it down to grades 1-3 since I want to make it colourful and appealing to kids, also possibly my interactive diagram could be useful to travelling people that are travelling inside Europe or to a country in Europe if they would like to find out more about the country. My idea is to make a diagram about all the european countries and teach them to my audience (where their locations are). So my diagram will show them the different countries and when you click on it, a few bits of information will pop up.

2. Identify and prioritise the research needed to develop a solution to the problem.
1. Have a look what Flash is 2. play around with Flash-- get to know it 3. a map of Europe 4. all of the countries in Europe 5. information about each country 6. where all the counties are in Europe 7. Some interesting facts about each country (links together with point 5) 8. Have a look at different interactive diagrams to get an idea how this will look at the end 9. Do some research about my (2) target groups. (more info about kids than the adults) 10. Look at other interactive diagrams and see how they make it interesting First I will need to actually have a look what Flash is and how it works. Then I will need to find all the things that I need to make my diagram, like a map. Then another thing that I will have to do is, to look up all the countries in Europe and where their location is. Once I have done that, I will have to look up some facts about each country, like what its population is, or some special features like monuments. I will also look up where a lot of the business people travel to in Europe.

3. Analyse a range of existing products that inspire a solution to the problem.

Monoface

Different parts of Animal cells

Different parts of the Guitar.

Monoface is a fun and interesting diagram. Its colours are simple and its layout too. The colours blue and white are good colours to choose because blue is natural colour which doesnt make you focus on the background very much. White is a good colour to choose too because it is a simple colour and you see it everywhere which makes you think this isnt anything new. The layout is a good choice too because it isnt hard to understand and you dont have to figure out how to use it. I like the second diagram too because it is clear and simple. Its colour are good here too because since the background is black you will need some bright colours like yellow or darkish blue. Also I like how when you scroll over the part of the cell, it highlights the matching name to it and the other way around too. This is what makes it interactive. The third one is good too. It is not my favorite because I am not really into guitars and instruments, but I like how when you go over one with your mouse, bits of information come up below. But what I dont really like is how long the explanations are. There is so much to read which I dont like that much, but if it takes that much to explain it then thats fine. So as a summary, the two diagrams (not monoface) are very similar because both teach something about a certain subject and as you scroll over it, I shows you what the part is or a small explanation. The three diagrams do kind of inspire the target to use them because #1, Monoface is just a diagram to have fun and to fool around, but the others teach you thing about a subject. For example the animal cell one, if you are interested or you dont understand how cells work/the different parts, you can have a look at the diagram and that might help you. As I said before, if I compare all the diagrams, diagrams 1+2 are very similar but one contrast between the 1st and the 2ond one is that if you scroll over one of the guitar parts, it says the name and what it does or its importance. The first diagram is of course much different since there is nothing to really learn about there. So this one contrasts a lot compare to the other two.

4. Summarise the analysis of the findings from a range of sources related to the development of a possible solution, cited appropriately.
Our challenge is to create an educational interactive diagram that will teach kids/people about an interesting topic and passion of yours. In my research that I have looked at (examples of interactive diagrams) I have learned that it doesnt look easy to make one and also, I want to come up with an interesting topic and not one that is boring and makes you want to quit the game. But also I have found out, that last years grade 8 students came up with a bunch of different ideas that are not too bad!. :) Things it should include or should be: colourful

interesting grab the users attention makes the user find out more It should be reasonable educational and fun-- 50:50

CONCLUSION So, I will need to make my diagram look colourful and interesting to make it look appealing and grab the kids (and travelling peoples) attention. Also my diagram should of course teach them something and they should find out more about the country. Another thing/feature it should have is it should be educational which links in with teaching the user something. Also it should be fun so that it does not bore the child. (Especially the child). Maybe a teacher (teaching grades 1-3) could even find this diagram on the web and show it to her students for them to try out. TARGET GROUP RESEARCH: KIDS (GRADES 1-3) http://www.learningplanet.com/stu/index.asp? tab=2 I have had a look at this website and it is colorful because it has little comic people which will interest kids to use it more. http://water.usgs.gov/edu/watercycle-kidsadv.html This is an interactive diagram I found on the web like we are doing. This I think is great for kids and they like using it because it uses little raindrops everywhere and it has a lot of nice colours. So, here by looking at this website and the diagram and looking at my brother or other kids and classrooms, that kids like it more colorful because apparently they can express themselves through using color. TRAVELLERS http://www.lonelyplanet.com/searchResult?q= Germany This is a website I have found is a really good site and here you can see that probably mostly only adults look at this website that is why it is not as colourful as the kids websites. http://www.roughguides.com/destinations/eur ope/germany/where-to-go/ This is another good site to go to since it also shows you the information you are looking for and here again the outline is simple. I have found out by looking at these websites and to my parents or other adults in general that they like to keep it more simple.
