THE UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES The University of the Philippines has eight constituent universities -UP Diliman !ith an e"tension program in Pampanga#$ UP %aguio$ UP &os %a'os$ UP (anila$ UP )isayas !ith campuses in *loilo+(iagao and Taclo,an#$ UP -e,u$ UP (indanao$ and the .pen University !hich has its o!n admission test#/ The Diliman campus is the University0s flagship campus and offers the largest num,er of degree programs/ .ther campuses are 1no!n for specific areas of speciali2ation/ 3or e"ample$ UP (anila is the country0s center of e"cellence in the health sciences4 UP &os %a'os is a distinguished center of academic e"cellence in agriculture$ forestry and related sciences in Asia4 UP )isayas is noted for its program in fisheries !hich is recogni2ed as one of the ,est in Asia4 UP %aguio is noted for its -ordillera 5tudies program4 and the UP .pen University$ offering mainly post-graduate degree programs$ through distance learning#/ As the premier 5tate University$ UP offers a !ide range of degree programs/ 5ome degree programs are offered in only one campus e/g/$ %5 6ursing$ %A 3ilipino# !hile others are offered in t!o or more campuses e/g/$ % 3ine Arts$ %5 5tatistics#/ (ost of these re7uire 7ualification through the UP -ollege Admission Test UP-AT#/ To maintain its high standard of education and to ma"imi2e its limited resources$ UP has had to limit slots for freshman admission to each campus and to its various degree programs/ 5ome programs are in much greater demand than others so that their freshman slots are often more 7uic1ly filled/ .ther programs may not ,e as much in demand so that their limits are rarely$ if ever$ reached/ Programs !here the demand often surpasses the availa,le slots are considered to ,e over-su,scri,ed/ .ne must 7ualify for these programs through the UP-AT/ 8raduates of foreign high schools may 7ualify for admission into programs that are not over-su,scri,ed as ,eginning freshmen !ithout having to ta1e the UP-AT provided they meet other re7uirements/ Details on the specific re7uirements may ,e o,tained from the .ffice of the University 9egistrar of the respective UP campuses/
ADMISSION INTO THE UNIVERSITY THROUGH THE UPCAT

The UP-AT consists of = su,tests> &anguage Proficiency$ 5cience$ (athematics and 9eading -omprehension/ 5tandardi2ed scores on these su,tests are com,ined !ith the !eighted average of final grades in the first three years of high school to determine 7ualification into UP/ (oreover$ to implement the policy of democrati2ation to ma1e the UP studentry more representative of the nation0s population$ socio-economic and geographic considerations are factored in the selection of campus 7ualifiers/ Qualifying fo a Ca!"u# *n your application$ you are as1ed to choose t!o campuses from among nine %aguio$ -e,u$ Diliman$ *loilo$ &os %a'os$ (anila$ (indanao$ Pampanga$ and Taclo,an# and indicate them in order of preference/ You !ill also indicate t!o degree programs per campus on your UP-AT application form and ran1 them in order of preference/ Your application !ill ,e processed according to your campus and course choices and in the order you specified/ All applicants are ran1ed ,ased on their admission grades and then screened ,ased on the choice of campuses/ The top-ran1ing applicants$ ,ased on the 7uota and cut-off grade set ,y each campus$ !ill 7ualify/ ?ntry into UP Diliman or UP (anila tends to ,e competitive ,ecause these campuses are chosen ,y more applicants/ *f you 7ualify for your first choice$ you !ill no longer ,e considered for your second choice of campus/ %ut if you do not 7ualify for your first choice$ you are automatically considered for your second choice of campus/ Qualifying fo a P og a! .nce you 7ualify to enter a campus$ you are then screened for acceptance into one of the degree programs you chose/ Different grade predictors are used for different programs/ -ampus 7ualifiers are ran1ed according to the degree program predictor/ Top-ran1ing 7ualifiers are accepted according to the num,er of slots availa,le for that program/ *f you ma1e it to the 7uota for your first choice of course$ you !ill no longer ,e screened for your second choice/ *f you don0t ma1e it to your first choice of degree program$ you !ill undergo the same screening process for your second choice/ *f you still do not ma1e it$ you !ill remain 7ualified for that campus ,ut must then find a degree program that can accommodate you/ 9emem,er$ you are an UP-AT 7ualifier4 you only need to find a program that !ill accept you/ The campus 9egistrar0s .ffice !ill help you find that program/ @ualification into UP is therefore a matter of 7ualifying for a campus$ regardless of course choices/ $HAT IF I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR A CAMPUS% *f you do not 7ualify to any of your campus choices$ you have several options> FIRST> You can try other UP campuses if> 1 your rating is !ithin their posted cut-off$ and # they still have availa,le slots/
