Introduction:
YouOs is a web based Operating System which is considered as the online counter part of the Microsoft Windows. This operating system is made by the four persons in the MIT Lab situated in the Silicon Valley named as ! "eff Mellen "oe Wong Sam #siung Srini $anguluri YouOs is an e%perimental and collaborati&e web Operating System It is in the 'eta &ersion with some functionalities li(e e!mail client) *hat function) +SS +eader) Te%t ,ditor and they still wor( on this to pro&ide all the functionality what is user wants in it-s web based Operating System. YouOs is based on the "a&aScript that is unli(ely the other .des(top/ you currently see. It helps us to run di&erse application in the web browser. Small

Open source means you ha&e the full authority to change its code and its functionality and prepare him to wor( according to you and your needs. YouOs is an Open Source any person who is in its de&elopment team ha&e the authority to change its code and pro&ide it some more features) add applications to it) add the number of person in its de&elopment team) change out its loo(s. Open Source also signifies that it is free ware a&ailable where you ha&e the internet connection anywhere you want to access u can do it.

"niversal Chat:
3 uni&ersally translated chat room which allows users of different languages to communicate with each other. $owered by YouOs translation 3$Is which use =oogle Translation Tools. It tries to bridge the communication barrier between users of &aried tribe and tongue. 1irst of all choose the language you spea(. You will see all the untranslated te%t of the chat to your left and to your right you will see that same language te%t translated to your own language. This is done with the help of YouOs translation 3$Is as shown in the figure.

This shows how the languages are translated on the Left side the language is in our conte%t but on the other side it is of the user to whom we are communicating.

#ini$Feature %isting Chat Channels:

It is one of the small feature in the chat of the YouOs which helps in 6udging the acti&e channels. You can clic( on the .channel/ button to see the number of the acti&e channels at that time in which communication is already going on. There are some other features also in this which we can use while chatting with the others. It pro&ides the same en&ironment which we get from the other messengers. In YouOs chat we can chat to those people which are using this operating system at that time. *hannels are di&ided according to the >ones of the world there are the se&en ?ones in which it shows. We ha&e to choose the ?ones and then choose the channels after that we are able to start our chat.

I7, means de&elop the application in such an ,n&ironment after that you can run it there chec( out whether it wor(s properly. With the help of the YouOs I7, you can browse the inbuilt application or you can create your own application after that with the help of the add8remo&e you can install your application after that run the application to see whether it wor(s or not.

The new application for reading +SS feeds named You +eader is recently added to the YouOs. This may ta(e a long time to prepare as it contains all the possible feeds of the user. It opens up the articles automatically in the right side of the You +eader column. It also helps to the sites which are lin( to this You +eader it pro&ides all the latest happening in each and e&ery field. It allows the user to (eep all the internet browsing in a single YouOs Tab. There are some other features in the you +eader which shall be updated recently.

You can now share files with your buddies through file e%plorer. "ust clic( on the file or directory you wish to share and open the Share option under the 1ile menu. 7oing this will pop up a dialog allowing you to toggle read) write and restricted permissions for each buddy. You can access your friend-s files underneath the .'uddies/ group in the left pane the 1ile ,%plorer) the same way you access your own files. The only difference is that only shared folders are &isible.

Online Word Application as -ell as !preadsheet:

It is one of the ma6or features which help the user to wor( on the Word as well as the Spreadsheets. The word is basically made by the Writely *orporation which is used to do the word wor( online. Its foundation is to ma(e a face to face fight with the Windows MS Word. 3nother achie&ement is done with the de&elopment of the spreadsheet which is made against the Windows MS ,%cel. These two de&elopments are ta(ing o&er by the YouOs for its user benefit. This is one of the new features of the YouOs which pro&ide you a platform to play the =ames on this operating system. This 4,S ,mulator completes with

few games in it e&ery one can play all these games on this OS. The wor( is going on these features to ma(e it ad&anced so that we can play game after installed our own game which are not in the list of the 4,S ,mulator. The de&elopment team is wor( on this feature for the past one month and it-s targeted to complete it with the end of this year.

Install your o-n Applications:

This is one of the important features of the YouOs in which you can install your own application to this operating system and then use them according to their use. 3lthough it pro&ides a gallery of the application in which you can find e&ery type of the software which are necessary for a person. There are little commands to install your own application on this operating system after that you can run those applications. If you want to uninstall your installed application you can do so this pro&ision is also mentioned in its scripting. #ence it pro&ides you the freedom of what you want and what you do.

It is one of the important features regarding this operating system among other features. You shell is basically the user where he8she can de&elop the application and are able to upload those application on their interface. You can see the en&ironment where you ha&e to do the coding of your applications.

You Mail as the word signifies that the feature of the YouOs is related to the Mail. With the help of this feature we can send or recei&e mails in the YouOs networ( only. This also pro&ides a direct contact with

the =mail mailing system. If you want to mail with the person which also use the YouOs then you can mail it with this feature. It helps in sending or recei&ing mails at a faster rate as it is in its own networ(. With this feature user don-t need to go to the other sites for sending mails to their friends or relati&es. This feature help those person also which are indulging in the business.

It is also one of the features of the YouOs operating system which helps you to get your MS4 clients on the YouOs with the help of the ,!messenger which is already installed on the this operating system. Instant messaging is another feature of the YouOs in which you don-t need to install the instant messaging software the System Le&el 3pplication for displaying images are already installed on the operating system. It pro&ides user a similar interface what they get with the other operating system. On other operating system you need to install these software but they are already installed in the YouOs operating system.

It pro&ides us the features li(e South par( TV according to them we are able to watch all the channels or episodes of the South $ar( TV. The process is under going in which we are able to see ma%imum number of famous channels of all o&er the world. The tas( shall be completed till "anuary @AAB what the e%pected date they gi&e us. It is one important feature in which we don-t need of the media center (it which is re:uired for watching the cable on

'uddies List is another feature of the YouOs operating system in which you can add a list of those friends to whom you want to share the files. With the help of this buddies list you can see the files which are shared by your friends with out this you can-t able to send or recei&e file from your friends with the help of file e%plorer to run the file e%plorer you re:uire the buddies list. If you ha&e contacts in your buddies list then you are informed by the system that out of your all friends these are online you can chat with them directly from the YouOs.

Advantages of the YouOs:

YouOs ob&iously isn-t a con&entional operating system) which mediates between the chips that power a computer and the software applications. 'ut it has enough similarities to ma(e the metaphor apt. It-s a technology platform that applications can be built upon) and it manages networ(ing functions and other plumbing for the applications. It brings many aspects of the des(top operating system into the Web browser. 3lso) in a sense) YouOs liberates software from hardware. It also does not re:uire any #ardware configuration. With the help of this operating system you can your any where or any time you want. The file made on this operating system is independent of the platform li(e Linu%) Windows. You can-t open the files made on Linu% on the Windows platform. 'ut you can open the files anywhere on the Linu% as well as Windows platform if the files are made on the YouOs operating system because it is platform independent. .It-s a profound idea in some respects)/

Disadvantages of YouOs:
3s we all of us (now that a coin has both sides similarly this operating system has some disad&antages also. It re:uires a preinstalled operating system on the computer hardware so that we can access this YouOs operating system any where. 3nother thing what we want is the high speed internet connection ;7SL connection< so that we can access this operating system. If we don-t ha&e internet connection then we are not able to access this operating system. We also not able to write the *7-s or 7V7-s because it is not directly attached to the hardware if we want to write the data then we ha&e to copy that data on the preinstalled operating system. 3mong the lot of ad&antages these disad&antages doesn-t ha&e any significance it co&ers all of its disad&antages. The team of the YouOs is already wor( on these disad&antages so that they co&ert these disad&antages into its ad&antages. The team is basically wor( on its connection with the #ardware so that it is able to write *7-s or it does not re:uire any pre installed operating system.

Future Aspects of YouOs:

Today-s e&ery one wants ad&ancement and want to fulfill his wor( on the internet. 4ow a days internet is in boom e&ery one) e&ery where persons adopt it. They need such an operating system that is based on the internet. YouOs fulfill this need of the person to wor( on such an operating system whose basic re:uirement is Internet. YouOs is in the beta form and wor( is still going on this pro6ect. This has great future as the whole 3$Is are done in the "a&aScript and the ser&ers are also managed with this only language. Its de&elopment doesn-t re:uire any s(ills of (nowing so many languages it re:uires only the (nowledge of the "a&aScript. When it meets with the hardware then e&ery one wants this operating system because no operating system allows the user to access files at different computer with different platform. It is the only operating system which fulfills the needs of the platform independent.
