RISE UP & BUILD CAMPAIGN NEWSLETTER NO. 1 JANUARY 21, 2014 LET US RISE UP & BUILD NEWSLETTER NO. 3 MARCH 4, 2014
MEMORIAL LUTHERAN CHURCH - KATY, TX www.mlckaty.com // @MemorialKaty
The month of March is...
a month for casting the vision!
We are not the rst to hearken to the call, Let us
rise up and build! First, Nehemiah, the cupbearer to
the king and Gods chosen man for his season, called
the people of Jerusalem to rebuild the walls, re-establish
their city and commit again to extending the kingdom
of God.
The entire month of March our worship
celebrations and sermons will be taking us deeper into
the narrative of Nehemiah and exploring its
connections with our call to RISE UP AND BUILD!
Here is an outline of our worship services, readings and
themes along with who will be preaching:
March 2 Vision Sunday
Nehemiah 1:1-3; 2:13-18
Testimonies from Memorial disciples
March 9 God Will Make
Us Prosper
Nehemiah 2:17-20
Rev. John Kieschnick

March 16 Everybody Has
a Part
Nehemiah 3
Rev. John Davis
March 23 A Rallying Point for the Community
Nehemiah 4:1-9, 15-20
Rev. John Davis
March 30 The Joy of the Lord is Our Strength!
Nehemiah 8:1-4a, 5-12

Please join us throughout the month of March as we
celebrate the past, commit to the present and cast a
vision for the future!
INVESTOR NEWSLETTER ISSUE N3 FALL 2009 RISE UP & BUILD NEWSLETTER NO. 1 JANUARY 21, 2014
WHATS YOUR
COMMITMENT?
LET US RISE UP & BUILD NEWSLETTER NO. 3 MARCH 4, 2014
As disciples at Memorial seek to RISE UP AND
BUILD together for the sake of the community, each of us
has a part to play. Each of us has a commitment to make
to steward our treasures to the glory of God and for the
extension of the community of Christ. On Sunday March
30th we will all make our commitments for capital
campaign stewardship for the next three years.
Wow. Thats a long time out....But heres the deal:
good things take time. The new preschool we are building
for Katy is a good thing. It takes time and it takes all of our
commitment. So, the only question left is: whats your
commitment?
We want you to take time as well as you
consider your commitment. It is our hope that you go
through a three-step process:
1) Pray for guidance in reaching a decision that will be
right for you, your family, your church & your
community.
2) Allow faith to become a part of your
decision. Leave room for God to act and He will give
you direction and opportunities in the decision you
make.
3) Consi der
sacri ce,
w h i c h i s
setting aside
and consecrating your gift as a way to show your love
to the LORD, your commitment to not only a building,
but to the community of Christ and the kingdom of
God!
As you go through this process, remember that there are
multiple ways you can give:
Out of your current cash ow
Change your lifestyle
Rearrange your priorities
Give treasures, or items of special value such as
jewelry, land, investments etc.
Continue to give your time, talents and use
technology to help spread the Word about the
campaign, but think specically of how you can give
nancially
We are excited to see what the LORD is doing in our
midst as we RISE UP AND BUILD together. Lets make a
strong commitment to Him, to one another & our
community on Sunday March 30th!

Master, Because you
Say so...
Simon answered, "Master, we've
worked hard all night and haven't
caught anything, but because you
say so, I will let down the nets."
Luke 5:5
I pulled into a quiet cove looking
for a place to sh, out of the
wind and waves. it was there I
saw a small wooden boat at a
small wooden dock with Luke 5:5
painted on the back. I didn't
think much of it at the time, but it
stuck in my mind. Eventually, I
found a Bible and looked it up.
"How cool is this," I thought,
"God wants me to go shing!"
right then and there I was
determined to show that verse, if
I ever got a boat of my own.
A few years later, giving into my
wife, we went to a church named
Memorial Lutheran.
And what was the sermon verse?
Luke 5:5. I heard God's voice a
bit more clearly: "With My
di recti on good thi ngs wi l l
happen.". I also heard the rest of
the story... Then Jesus said to
Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now
on you will catch men.". So they
pulled up their boats on shore,
left everything and followed him.
Luke5:10-11.
As we enter into this campaign, I
believe that God is calling and will
lead us.
Will we answer like Simon Peter?
"Master, because you say so, we
will let down our nets."
Tim Gandre, Prayer Team
A letter from our
PreSchool Director:
Linda Stahmer...
Let the little children come
to me, and do not hinder them, for
the kingdom of God belongs to such
as these. Mark 10:14
When I rst
started writing
thi s arti cl e, I
wr ot e a l ot
a bout me .
what Gods path
for my life had
been over the
past 35 years: taking me from
IBM in 1976 to preschool
director in 2007. That was a
wild ride.
But then, I was reminded that
its not about me. Its about the
little children and sharing the
love of their Savior Jesus with
them.
Every day we hear stories from
the children about Jesus, and
their version of how Jesus loves
them. They get it. The
children understand that Jesus
loves them unconditionally now
and always and forever.
For some of our children,
Memorial Lutheran Preschool is
the only place they hear about
His saving grace; about how
Jesus died for them on the
cross, rose from the dead and
lives eternally.
When lling out the paperwork
for enrollment and asked about
their church afliation, a number
of children have no church
afliation. MLP is the only
place they hear and learn the
Lords Prayer. They say it in
Chapel every week. Do they
understand all the meanings
( a c c o r d i n g t o L u t h e r s
Catechism)? Probably not, but
they all, from the toddlers to
the four year
olds, learn and
will know the
Lords Prayer
and can take it
home to share.
MLP al so has
q u i t e a f e w
children of non-Christian faiths
who attend our preschool.
Fortunately, they all hear the
same stories of the saving grace
of our Lord and Savior Jesus
and will sing the songs which
share the same message. I often
hear parents comment about
their child singing a song in the
car which theyve learned in
music about Jesus. What a
blessing!
Bob & I have discussed our
nancial commitment to the
new facilities. We believe God
is in control and will provide. In
addition to our regular giving,
we are committed to increase
our offerings over and above
our regular commitment for the
next three years. It is our
prayer that you would do the
same.
Serving Him through the children,
Linda Stahmer
