I hear there is a keen volunteer moving to

Tauranga in March who is a former HR Recruitment person. Wonderful! The WING [Womens International Network Group] met on this last day of February and this was their first lunch meeting for 2014. Iryna Stewart hosted this occasion. This last day of summer!

Tena koutou katoa - (Greetings to everyone)

Weve hosted our first activity this year in the form of an Immigration NZ presentation and Q & A opportunity. Many thanks to Immigration NZ Services our guest speakers were two Senior Managers from the Hamilton office. It was a very enlightening morning for our mixed group of attendees. The mix took in professionals as well as migrants needing to have queries answered. So it is back to business as usual for our team in the office at Settlement Support NZ [SSNZ]. CV and Cover Letters assistance for Migrants Since the demise of a face to face service provided so well by our CareersNZ team, we at SSNZ seem to have a steady stream of job seekers wanting assistance with their CVs and cover letters. Job Mentor volunteers are also still wanted. If there is community assistance out there to help with CV writing and cover letters Id love to hear about it please. In the meantime, I am seriously considering running a workshop for job seekers during March. Ill advertise that as soon as possible. Voluntary Job Mentors programme at SSNZ Fortunately we have one active Job Mentor who has been very successful and appreciated by a small group of job seekers. It appears that we may be able to add to this team with another who has put up their hand and

Getting Ahead in Job Search

Getting ahead in Job Search

Business confidence is continuing to rise despite expectations interest rates will increase early in 2014 and a looming skills shortage. Reports of a growing skills shortage is reinforced in the finding that 31% of businesses are having difficulty finding employees with the right skills compared to 23% a year ago (Auckland Chamber of Commerce Business Confidence Survey , November 2013). Job opportunities are out there. Businesses are seeking skilled talents both locally and from overseas. Migrants continue to arrive on New Zealand shores seeking job opportunities every day. How can both parties find each other? If you are a new migrant jobseeker, the great news is that you are not alone on your job search journey. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce offers a couple of initiatives that can assist you

The first initiative is the website: www.newkiwis.co.nz

I guess you want to know whats different about New Kiwis and the other web based recruitment services? Well, heres why, every month, we have on average 256 people locally and 778 globally registering on the site:
The New Kiwis programme links jobseekers to our extensive network of Employers and vice versa. There is no-cost to the candidate or employer and the service leverages off our existing relationship with around 22,000 businesses around NZ. In NZ, a very high percentage of vacancies are not advertised in conventional ways here it is all about networks and networking. New Kiwis links you to our business networks under our brand and we can show you how to network in NZ.

The www.newkiwis.co.nz site and our services are for skilled and qualified candidates living in New Zealand (Local), and those who are in the process of emigrating (Global).

Employers love this service because it is free it saves them time and money because they can log into the site and search for candidates that meet their needs. Employers actually prefer not to advertise and this is why there are a limited of vacancies posted on the site. But Employers are actively using the site to search and download shortlists of candidates. Over 5,000 CVs are downloaded by employers and recruitment agencies each year and many more shortlisted and viewed. New Kiwis (www.newkiwis.co.nz) is a partnership project between the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and Immigration New Zealand. The second initiative New Kiwi Career Success - is all about job search skills and strategies and also funded by Government. In Auckland: you can attend our 2.5 day course and on-going follow-up workshops at no cost where will cover everything from how to do your CV and cover letter through to cold-calling and networking. Outside Auckland / already working / offshore: you can access the New Kiwi Career Success online through: www.newkiwis.co.nz There is a link from the landing page for seekers or through the information centre. http://www.newkiwis.co.nz/local/job_seeker/online_course.aspx Need more information contact Cheng Goh on (09) 375 3929 or email cgoh@chamber.co.nz.
