The types and numbers of modules are subject to modification, it depends on the cell configuration and the type of antenna combination. For the Base rack to function a Service rack is required which will be installed close beside to the Base rack. If only one Service rack islocated on site, it contains all infrastructure equipment: AC/DC Converter (ACDC; converts the mains voltage of 230 V AC into the -48 V DC supply voltage) Link Equipment (LE; can be NTPM if terrestrial line is used for connection to BSC or microwave) Backup Batteries (guarantees continuous operation for a certain time in case of mains breakdown of AC/DC failure. The number of Service racks depends on the number of installed carriers on site, the volume of required link equipment and the expected backup time of batteries. The following figures shows the most interesting configurations of the Service rack.

Equipment Delivery
The BS240 racks are shipped vertically in wooden crates. The crates dimensions are 1800 mm x 800 mm x 650 mm (HxWxD). Depending on the pre-installed modules inside the racks, the crate can weigh up to approx. 150 kg. Depending on customers requirements, the Service racks can be delivered without backup batteries (weight aspects). In this case an additional crate contains the batteries. All crates have the following information printed on them for identification of delivery: trade mark customer order number serial number of rack or other supplied equipment destination gross and net weight overall dimensions (cm) symbol or inprint to identify the "Top" and the "Bottom" For transportation of the crates from the unloading area into the construction room use handling aids (for example: fork-lift truck, goods elevator), a second person is needed for help.

2.5.1

Preliminary Checks
Check that the crates are not damaged. In case of evident damage due to transport, unpack the equipment in presence of an insurance company representative and promptly claim any damage and inform the shipper for specifying the damage. Check whether the package is actually adressed to the site and complete. Open it and take the contents out carefully. After having removed all contents from the packing material, check for deformation to the devices, of torn or unwelded wiring, of oxidized connectors, as well as deformed front sides of the units, loose screws, damage to paint work etc.

2.5.2

Rack Unpacking
During the unpacking steps great care must be taken to ensure that the rack is not scratched or damaged in any way. Proceed as follows: Cut the straps and remove the top of the crate. Take out the proles protecting the rack edges. Remove the protection to the head and to the base of the rack. Take out the rack from the crate. Use the straps around the rack. Lay down the rack and open the tubular PE shrink-wrap protecting the rack and take it out. Lift the rack in vertical position.

Devices Unpacking
Proceed as follows: Open the PVC wrap protecting the carton and withdraw it. Remove the dehydrating material bag from the box. Cut with a suitable knife the adhesive tape sealing the box. Take the device out. Open the PVC wrap protecting the device/board and withdraw it. The packing material should be preserved for possible future re-packing. For this purpose, reverse the procedure described above, taking into account the warnings specified for the packing. If the packing material is supplied by the customer, special care should be taken to avoid damage during the transport and storage of the devices.

2.5.4

Rack Installation
Prior to the commencement of rack installation, consult the site documentation to locate the installation point of the BS240, the PCM30 network termination power supply unit (if -48V will be provided from external equipment) and the access of the antenna cables into the construction room. After that check the proper installation of the earthing bar and the necessary cable runways. Mark the rack-outlines on the oor according to the site conguration oor. (If the construction room is equipped with a raised oor and cabling access is required from below, mark the position of the required opening.) Cut out the opening, making sure that the rack and all nearby equipment are dust protected ! Move the rack to the marked installation point. Check the correct rack position, using the spirit-level. In case, the position is incorrect, equalize differences in the oor height by adjusting the screwed adjuster feeds. Fix the rack to wall to prevent fallover.

Some additional hints for the installation of external cabling: The rst cable that has to be installed is the ground cable between the main ground stud on top of the rack and the nearest ground bar on site. The second installation step is to connect the ground stud of the different racks in series. After that all other cables like AC mains, RF cabling or alarm wires can be installed. The screen of the RF jumpers has to be grounded before entering the BTSE at the EMI panel. If cables are fed through coaxial cable access located at the top of the rack at the front, the screen has to be grounded like all other coaxial cables. The following figure shows the location of the external interfaces of a 3-rack solution of the BS240.

Ground and Power Supply Connections 230 V AC

The BS240 racks has to be connected to the site specific ground system before starting the connection of AC mains cable. The ground system on site must comply with the standards IEC 1024-1 and VDE 0185. A ground cable (50 mm2, copper conductor) must be connected at the M8 stud of the PE-plates, located at the top of the racks ( see Fig.2.10). Connect the BS240 racks and ground system as follows: Use the nearest ground bar on site. Ascertain the distances between the connection points of the ground system and the ground stud of the rack. Cut the cables to the required length. Remove the cable covering at the end to connect to the ground bolt (length approx. 7 mm) and x a cable lug M8. Connect the prepared cable end to the ground bolt. Tighten the nut rmly.

Ground and AC mains connections of the BS240 (example) A 5pole WAGO terminal block, located in the top of Service rack 1, is the connection point for the AC mains cable. The BS240 will be powered by 3 x 230 V, 50 Hz, 20 A per phase. An easily accessible disconnect device is incorporated into the AC mains supply wiring. To isolate the mains supply 3 40A circuit breakers are connected (one per phase), and are installed in the AC distribution box close to the BS240. The disconnect device shall simultaneously interrupt all phase conductors. The figure above shows the recommended cabling for the power supply and ground connections. The recommended cable types guarantees the proper function of the BS240, equipped with up to 24 carriers. To connect the BS240 with the AC mains connection point proceed with the following steps: Unscrew the bolts in the top extrusions for opening the roof. Remove the roof sections carefully, avoid damages to the paint work. Refer to the site documentation for the required information about type and location of the AC distribution. Check the actual distance between WAGO terminal and AC distribution. Remove the insulation of the cable and cut back the wire insulation at the end; that is to be connected to the terminal block. The wires must be equipped with wire end sleeves. Fix the cables at the strain relief by the clamp. Insert the wires into the WAGO terminals and screw them down. Check that all wires are in xed position. Lead the main cable to the AC distribution.

Ground and Power Supply Connections -48 V DC

For connecting the BS240 with the power supply unit 2 DC wires (16 mm ) are required. Depending on the site-specific power supply configuration, the rack has to be connected directly with the power supply unit or via a power distribution panel. In any case the rack has to be protected by a 50 A breaker. The following figure shows the power supply configuration for the BTS, if a power distribution panel is used. The power supply unit, as shown in Fig.2.14., is intended to be supplied by a -48 V DC centralized battery source. The charging rectifiers must be internally insulated from the AC mains by insolating transformers. The positive pole of the backup batteries must be connected to ground. Installation of the DC wires is as follows: Ascertain the real distance between rack and the power supply unit or power distribution panel. Cut the wires to the required length. Remove the cable covering (length approx. 12 mm) and x wire end sleeves at the ends to be connected to the terminal block of the MSU (the location is shown in Fig.2.13). Insert the prepared ends into the terminal block. Tighten the clamping screws. Check the correct polarity of the connection from BTS to the DC output of the power supply unit.

Abis-Interface - PCM Link Terminal

The Abis interfaces PCM0 and PCM1,located on EMI panel, provides the communication links to the neighbouring Base Stations or to the controlling BSC. The Abis interfaces are terminated with Overvoltage Protections (OVPT) which protects the boards inside the BS240 against overvoltage (residual voltage < 1 kV). Two types of OVPT exist: OVPTCOAX for 75 Ohm and OVPT for 120 Ohm cables). Depending on the different cable impedances it is recommended to: Use screened cable containing 8/10 shielded twisted pairs 0,25 mm2 for 120 Ohm PCM lines, e.g. S-09YS(ST)CY 8x2x0.6/1.2. Use coaxial cables for 75 Ohm wiring, e.g. 2YCCY 0.4/2.5. The outer diameter of the PCM cable must not exeed 8 mm. The maximum cable length depends on the attenuation of the cable, in order to fulfill the requirements of minimum voltage levels to be provided at Abis interface according to PCM standards. The cable shielding must be connected to the relevant ground pins as close as possible (in order to avoid EMC/RF interfering effects).

Connect the Abis-interface with twisted pair cable to the PCM link terminal as follows: Cut the cable to the required length and cut back the outer insulation (approx.19 cm). Remove the wire insulation (8 mm). Wrap the exposed cable screen, which will be xed at the stress relieving. Fix the prepared cable close to the strain relieving by straps. Insert the wires into the terminals of the OVPT. Insert the additional wire (shielding potential) into one of the ground terminals (e.g. no. 24).

Lead the additional wire and the uplink and downlink wires on the shortest route (that means without sleeves) between the stress relieving and the screw terminals. All unconnected PCM lines (4 wires per line) must be connected to one of the ground terminals.

It is advantageous to protect the short part of the cable between stress relieving and terminal block with a shrink tube or adhesive tape. EXT SYNC B EXT SYNC A

Alarm Collection Terminal - external Signal Sensors

The access for cabling from external signal sensors on site (site inputs) is the Alarm Collection Terminal for Base Rack (ACTM). The ACTA (part of the ACTM) provides 8 WAGO terminal blocks with 12 pins each for connecting of 48 site inputs. The ACTA is mounted at the EMI panel of the shelter. For connection of wires, the ACTA must be unscrewed from EMI panel for easier access to the terminal blocks. On the ACTAa copper bracket exists for strain relieving and cable screen grounding.

Antenna Connections
The BTSE has to be connected to the transmit and receive antennas. The antenna configuration and the required cabling are dependent on the site and the type of combining. For detailed information refer to the site-specific documentation or use the corresponding customer documents. For installation and service purposes it is useful to know, which hardware is connected to which cell. The numbering, seen from the top of the antenna pole, starts at an azimuth angle of 0 (north) and rotates clockwise. The first existing cell whose beam centre line lies at 0 or more is defined as cell 0 or sector 0. The next one following in the same direction cell is cell 1 etc. In case of omni cell the cell no. is 0. 0

Jumper cable with a max. diameter 1/2 have to be used because the thick cables from the antenna are not able to enter the racks. With regard to overvoltage protection it is recommended to ground the outer conductor of antenna feeder cables where they are connected with the jumper cables outside the BS240. The antenna cables must be routed through the EMI panel forward to the 7/16 front connectors of DUAMCO/FICOM and to N-type male connector of DIAMCO.

Note that being able to close the doors means that the depth of the right angle connector is not allowed to exeed 45 mm.

Rack Completion
The BS240 racks are shipped including equipment components, pre-installed by the manufacturer in accordance with customer configuration: sub-rack, which holds several boards and modules DC panel backplanes (multilayer PC-boards, which are mounted at the rear side of the subrack) the rack internal cabling heaters and fan unit core modules carrier related modules (Carrier Units, Antenna Combiners) AC/DC converters semi-rigid cables for setup of the system cabling The following items are foreseen for installation after setup of the racks on site: backup batteries cabling between the racks (battery cabling, DC-cabling, CAN-BUS) link equipment For cable routing from one rack into another one (eg. DC power supply, CAN-Bus, battery cables) two ways can be used. Without leaving the EMC-protected area, a cabling channel is provided. For this reason holes that are covered by plates for single racks and the endracks of a row are provided at both sides of a rack. These coverplates have to be removed by unscrewing the security screws M3. Four plug-in seal strips per rack have to be mounted at the cutout. Racks stand side by side and must be screwed together to one common unit with one nut and screw M8x20.

Installation of Link Equipment

The link equipment acts as a front end, to provide the Abis interface. Different equipment can be used for wire or radio transmission. Which equipment will be used depends on customer requirements. The number of link equipment, which can be installed depends on the height of the units. For connections between Abis interface in the Base rack and link equipment in the Service rack pay attention to the recommendation CCITT G.703. Here it is stated that the receive level compared with the transmit level should not be lower than 6 dB. For installation of link equipment a mounting kit, designed for 19 units with up to 6 HU is necessary. The installation of link equipment in the mounting kit always has to start at the top of the mounting kit below the fans without a gap. All uneqipped slots must be closed by cover plates, so that the airflow inside the rack will not be affected. In case of microwave transmission, the indoor units inside the Service rack must be connected via the microwave antenna cables with the tower mounted outdoor units. The following figure shows the routing of an antenna cable at the cable feeding module in the lower part of the rack. Connect the microwave antenna cables to the indoor units as follows: Unscrew the front part of cable feeding module and take it out. Remove the packing material. Feed the microwave cable through the cable feeding module forward to the front connectors of microwave indoor units. Fix the microwave cables at the connectors. Bend the microwave cables into the correct position for easy closing of cable feeding module. Setup of System Cabling

The system cabling consists of connections, which are installed on the front side of the rack. It depends on the different equipping variants (e.g. type of combining, capacity stage) and the cell configuration of the site. The following table gives an overview about the types and functionality of the prefabricated cables which will be used. connection DUAMCO 0/3CU 0/1/4/5 DUAMCO 1/2CU 2/3/6/7 FICOMCU 0/1/4/5 DIAMCOCU 0/1/2/3/6/7 DIAMCOCU 4/5 DUAMCO 1/2CU 2/3/6/7 FICOMCU 2/3/6/7 DUAMCO 0/3CU 0/1/4/5 HPDUDIAMCO/BIAS HPDUACOM Tab. 2.23 code number C39195-Z80-C113 C39195-Z80-C114 C39195-Z80-C115 C39195-Z80-C116 C39195-Z80-C117 C39195-Z80-C118 C39195-Z80-C160 C39195-Z80-C160 C39195-Z80-C C39195-Z80-C length 1600 mm 950 mm 1400 mm 600 mm 750 mm 1250 mm 1250 mm 1250 mm mm 800 mm connector SMC,90,male/ SMC,90,male SMA,90,male/ SMC,90,male SMA,90,male/ SMA,90,male SMC,90,male/ SMC,90,male SMC,90,male/ SMC,90,male SMC,90,male/ SMC,90,male SMA,90,male/ SMA,90,male SMA,90,male/ SMA,90,male SMA,90,male/ SMA,90,male 7/16,90,male 7/16,90,male cable type semi-rigid .086 Al semi-rigid .141 Al semi-rigid .141 Al semi-rigid .086 Al semi-rigid .086 Al semi-rigid .086 Al semi-rigid .141 Al semi-rigid .141 Al semi-rigid .141 Al 1/2 jumper cable

Functionality of system cables

For setup of the sytem cabling connections on site in case of installation or later extension, the cables will be shipped in a box, to avoid twisting and damage. Before starting the connection procedure, refer to the site documentation and determine the types and number of cables. The list of variant numbers (content of the site specific documentation) is needed for the correct setup of the cabling between the modules. Pay attention to the minimum bending radius of 10 mm, a bending tool should be used. The following sections are intended to give an overview about the most interesting configurations with different combining modules.
