the Senate considered the proposal received from Prof.M.M. Mayuram, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and DCC views for improving academic standards, accountability of teachers in conduct of classes/evaluation of performance of the students on the following points:
(1) E grade cut-off should not be less than 35%. To make for the shortfall additional assignment can be given to students. (2) Abolition of E grade and an alternate grade pass P can be given. The students can repeat the course later and acquire the minimum core competence. (3) No theory classes in lab slots (PQRST) should be conducted. In case of no other option due to clash of slots or other genuine reasons, the classes must be held in at least two sessions on different days. (4) Teachers have to declare in advance the evaluation scheme, no of classes to be held, prescribed syllabus, syllabus for end sem and the nature of grade distribution, etc.

The Senate noted the feedback received from the departments and most of the Departments have strongly expressed that Points (1) and (2) above need to be the left to the faculty and the class committee, and that Point nos.3 and 4 have been agreed/are being followed by the departments.
AC.7

the Senate noted that the proposal for inclusion of new slots for introducing one morning slot (between 7and 7.50 am) and another slot in the evening between 5 and 5.50 pm is not favoured by most of the departments and hence withdrawn.
