Song Worksheet: Roar by Katy Perry

There is no better way - or at least more common way - to start a new school year than by revising the tenses we believe our students already know. Since I decided to take it easy on them I prepared a very easy listening activity. Students simply listen to Katy Perry's latest hit and fill the gaps with the correct form of the verbs in brackets. You can discuss the choice or use of tenses afterwards. There is also a short listening comprehension exercise. All you have to do is download the song or simply use Katy's official video on YouTube. Hope your students will enjoy it.

Song Worksheet: What If by Coldplay

The song What If by Coldplay is great for teaching Conditional Sentences and Modals. It is a listening activity that helps to practice what-if- questions. Do not forget to remind your students that we use this type of questions while asking about the consequences of an action, particularly one that is undesirable. Before you start listening give your students time to fill in the gaps with the right verb tense and predict the modals. The worksheet is better to be used with the adult learners because alongside with the music video it can trigger further discussion in the classroom.

Students first watch the video then find the sentences that are correct and fix the ones that are not. An excellent example for students struggling with participial phrases. Participial phrases can't be dangling, they can't describe to actions not happening at the same time, etc.

Song Worksheet: What Does the Fox Say by Ylvis

This is a very easy song, suitable for children or beginners. You can use it to revise the names of animals. Use it definitely at the end of the lesson, preferably on Friday as the kids might not be able to pay attention any longer after listening to the song. Friendly warning: please, be careful, watch the song before you play it, you might find it a bit silly, but definitely funny
