When you design, code, and sell your rst video game at 12 and publish a book on programming at 13, people come to expect that youll wow them. Alexandre Moreira Nascimento has never disappointed. He has cofounded three high-tech companies, guiding two from business plan to acquisition. His eight-year-old company Optimize serves more than 100 corporations in every major market. What wows Nascimento, however, is whats next, and hes at MIT to nd that out.
Olufunke Michaels speaks seven languages. She is a published poet, novelist, and childrens book author and an avid devotee of African dance. All of this fuels her celebrated work in marketing. Michaels recently led a strategic brand recovery effort in post-earthquake Haiti, transforming the mobile companys image to align with the distinct needs and values of its customers. Her connection to the people grew so strong, in fact, that she cofounded a robust private relief group in her spare hours.
Realize dreams
Since I was a small boy in So Paulo, devouring tech magazines and deconstructing computers, I knew Id be an engineer. I dreamed of going to MIT. I knew we were meant for one another. And when I nally arrived, a sh out of water to some extent, in every other part of my life, I felt, for the rst time, that I had nally come home.
Prepare to lead
When I was comparing programs, I closely reviewed the proles of professors. I looked at the work they had done and what they had accomplished. The MIT Sloan faculty stood out. I knew that I wanted to connect with and learn from these people. I knew that they had made a signicant difference in the world and that they would prepare me to do the same.
everything you learn is practical and instantly usable. My highest goal is to return to Nigeria as the most informed and inspiring leader I can be. I had only one year to give to an MBA, and this was the year I needed.
Dont blink
Everything you learn here is relevant. Dont even consider blinking. Every minute of every class is new information, must-have information, information essential to succeeding in the 21st-century world. I have never seen so much value packed into such small measures of time.
almost a physical sensation. You wake up a different person from the person you were the day before. I look back at myself a month ago, and I cant believe how much Ive changed. And I look forward to who I will be tomorrow. Its exhilarating.
Be the future
You are surrounded by visionaries here. Every conversation with a classmate is an important learning experience. They astound me on a daily basis with what theyve accomplishedand with their potential for accomplishment. They are the worlds future, and I am honored to be among them.

DAN HESSE, SF 89
U N I T ED S TAT E S
CEO Sprint
Dan Hesse determined early on in his career that he did not want to be an empty suit. He wanted to be the CEO with wall-to-wall knowledge of his industry. His journey up the telecom ladder began with an internship at AT&T. He set about learning the industry inside out, from handsets to networks, climbing to CEO of AT&T Wireless Services. Today, it is a point of pride for Hesse, as CEO of Sprint, to be able to walk into any Sprint storefront in America and explain his product to customers.
Drawn to the fertile entrepreneurial climate of MIT, Bettina Hein was already a tech startup pro when she arrived on campus in 2006. She had launched the celebrated program START to promote entrepreneurship among college students and had cofounded the speech software startup SVOX AG (and later sold it for $125M). But it was at MIT that Hein began shaping her iconic video marketing startup Pixability. Today, the four-year-old venture is generating as much buzz as its CEO.
Take it on
Two years after the MIT Sloan Fellows Program, I was promoted to CEO of AT&T Network Systems International overseeing 10,000 employees and operations in 28 countries. AT&Ts leadership knew the program well. They understood the impact it would have on my global leadership capabilities, and they realized that I was now ready to take on a challenge of that magnitude. Most important, I knew I was ready.

wanted a bridge to the technology community in the U.S. I wanted to develop my next company with a full kit of resources, knowledge, network, and skills. And to achieve all that, I needed a highly concentrated dose of MIT. The best way to get that? The MIT Sloan Fellows Program and it delivered on all counts.
ing a common foundation of essential knowledge. Learn data-driven frameworks that give you the tools and
condence to solve complex challenges and evaluate key opportunities. Tap into the research of MIT faculty and thought leaders at neighboring institutions like Harvards Kennedy School of Government to customize your course of study.
The intersection between business and technology is just not something you get at other schools. You develop an ability to come into a situation like the Gulf oil spill, and you know how to deal with unfamiliar technology, build a team, and craft a solution.

Shorten the distance between the leader you are today and the one you intend to become.
I strategized with the worlds top aeronautics scientists, explored pivotal technological innovations at the MIT Media Lab, learned from leading security experts in political science even tapped the latest thinking on defense policy at Harvards Kennedy School. If it was essential to me as a leader, I could reach across the MIT universe and get it.
