Explanation based on the pedagogical principles

The poem An Alphabet is a poem on alphabets. Based on the pedagogical principles, this poem is suitable to be taught to pupils from Year One onwards. This is because the poem is about alphabets and it is the first thing that pupils need to learn. Before students learn words, they will learn alphabets. So this poem is can be used to teach pupils as low as Year One. If the students do not understand certain words, input can be given to the students and this will help the students to understand the words thus understanding the poem too. The use of alphabets in the poem can arouse the interest of students to learn the poem with interest. This is a different way to learn alphabets as there are many other ways to learn alphabets. So the teacher can introduce this poem as one of the ways to teach the students alphabets. To make it more interesting, actions can be used during the recitation of the poem. This may arouse the interest of the students to learn the poem and stay concentrated in the lesson without getting distracted. The students will want to learn more through this way. Besides, based on the proficiency level of the students, this poem can be used to teach students of the weak and intermediate group. This is because the words used in the poem are simple and students will not face any difficulties in understanding the poem. The words that might be difficult for the students can be given input by the teacher so that the pupils able to understand the words. This poem is not suitable to be used for the advanced students as it may get them bored and they may tend to lose interest. The background knowledge of the students can help them to understand the poem better. Pupils can use their previous knowledge to understand words and phrases in the poem. The content of the poem is also another aspect to be discussed under the pedagogical principles. The words that are used in the poem are mostly easy and understandable. The words might be familiar to the students and the students will be able to understand the poem without much difficulty. Even though the poem is long, but its content is very useful for the pupils. The poem emphasizes on the teaching of alphabets and it could add on to the knowledge of the students about alphabets. This poem is readable by the students. Values are not given much emphasis in this poem. Apart from that, the poem is appropriate with our culture as it does not contradict with our culture. The teaching of alphabets might be different in our culture but this can be accepted in our culture as a way to teach the students

alphabets. The use of subjects in teaching alphabets can be adapted by the teacher to make it simpler and accepted by every pupil. Thus, this poem is suitable for teaching song and poetry in primary school.
