To see Angstrom in action, you need a full root file system and a matching kernel.

The following instructions show how to download and boot the demo image: 1. Navigate to the Angstrom BeagleBoard demo page and read the instructions. . !ownload the binary images for the boot loader and root file system from the Angstrom BeagleBoard demo page. There files you need are: mkcard.t"t #$% u&boot.bin Angstrom&Beagleboard&demo&image&glibc&ipk& '1'.(&beagleboard.rootfs.tar.b) (. *nsert a micro+! card with at least ,-B capacity, and determine its device name. .or e"ample, if you are using a /+B card reader, use fdisk and look for a disk matching the card0s characteristics. The following e"ample shows /dev/sdg:
# fdisk -l ... Disk /dev/sdg: 3.9 GB, xxx bytes 255 heads, 63 sect !s/t!ack, xxx cyli"de!s

,. /nmount any partitions on the card. /se your card0s device name in place of /dev/sdg in the following e"ample:
s#d #$ #"t /dev/sdg%

1. .ormat your +! card using the $kca!d.txt script. Note: Be certain that you are targeting your +! card and not a system disk. /se your card0s device name in place of /dev/sdg in the following e"ample:
ch$ d &x $kca!d.txt ' s#d ./$kca!d.txt /dev/sdg

2hen the operation is done, your micro+! card contains two primary partitions: %ne 3'#B .AT partition labeled b t. %ne e"t( partition labeled ("gst! $ that takes up the rest of the card0s capacity. *f your system does not automatically mount these partitions after the script creates them, mount them by hand, replacing your card0s device name for /dev/sdg in the following e"ample:
s#d s#d $kdi! -) /$edia/b t ' s#d $ #"t /dev/sdg* /$edia/b t $kdi! /$edia/("gst! $ ' s#d $ #"t /dev/sdg2 /$edia/("gst! $

The rest of this e"ample assumes these partitions are mounted as /$edia/b /$edia/("gst! $.
s#d ta! -+ /$edia/("gst! $ -x,vf ("gst! $-Beagleb a!d-de$ -i$age-glibc-i)k-2.*..3-beagleb a!d.!

4. /npack files to the root file system partition 5this command may take some time6:
tfs.ta!.b/2

3. 7opy files to the boot partition, noting that the kernel image comes directly from the root file system:
c) 012 /$edia/b t

c) #-b t.bi" /$edia/b t c) /$edia/("gst! $/b t/#3$age /$edia/b

8. 2hen all operations are done, synchroni)e file systems and unmount partitions:
sy"c ' s#d #$ #"t /dev/sdg%

9. *nsert the card into the BeagleBoard&"# and apply power. Note: *f the first boot fails with an error like this:
4e!"el )a"ic - " t sy"ci"g: 567: 8"able t $ #"t ! t fs " #"k" 9"-bl ck...

:estart the system, stop the boot countdown, and type the following command:
sete"v $$c! t /dev/$$cblk.)2 !9

Then boot the system by typing b
