UNGeneralAssembly Sponsors:UnitedStates(AnnieWyrick) Israel/PalestineandtheRightofReturn TheGeneralAssembly, ConfirmingthattheUnitedStatessupportsatwostatesolution,inwhichboththePalestiniansandthe Israeliswouldhaveapieceoflandtocalltheirown, FullyawarethatIsraeliPrimeMinisterBenjaminNetanyahumetwithPresidentBarackObamaon March3,andPalestinianPresidentMahmoudAbbaswillarriveonMarch17todiscusstheU.S. administration'sdiplomaticefforttoreachatwostatesolution(Telhami1), RemindingmembersoftheUNthattheU.Swouldpreferatwostatesolutiontopass,andfully supportsthecreationofaPalestinianstateintheWestBankinordertobringpeacetotheregion, Takingintoconsiderationthatifthetwostatesolutionfails,theU.Swouldsupportasingledemocratic stateinwhatisnowIsraelandthePalestinianterritorieswhereJewsandArabswouldbegrantedequal rights.

(Telhami1), ReaffirmingthataonestatesolutionwouldcreateastateinwhichbothPalestiniansandJewslive democraticallyatpeacewithoneanother,andbothnationalitieswouldhaveequalrightsandfreedom fromdiscrimination, AwarethatthesettlementsbyIsraelicitizensintheWestBankisillegal,andanintrusionuponthe Palestinianswhoarecurrentlylivingthere,accordingtoresolution446and298thesesettlementshave beencondemnedbytheUN, RemindingmembersoftheUNthattheU.SdoesnotsupporttheillegalIsraelisettlementsintheWest Bank,andrecognizethepastresolutionsagainsttheillegalsettlements,includingResolution446which statesDeterminesthatthepolicyandpracticesofIsraelinestablishingsettlementsinthePalestinianand otherArabterritorieshavenolegalvalidityandconstituteaseriousobstructiontoachieve comprehensive,just,andlastingpeaceintheMiddleEast.(UNResolution446) RecognizingthattherearethousandsofPalestinianrefugeestakingshelteramongthesurroundingArab countries,manyofthemovercrowdedinthepackedrefugeecamps(PalestinianRefugees1),currently withouthome, RemindingallstatesthataccordingtotheUniversalDeclarationofHumanRights,Article15,Everyone

hastherighttoanationality.Nooneshallbearbitrarilydeprivedofhisnationalitynordeniedtherightto changehisnationality.(UniversalDeclarationofHumanRights) 1.CallsuponIsraeltorelocatethepeoplelivinginthenumerousillegalsettlementsintheWestBank, andtoreleasethatportionoflandintoPalestiniancontrolwithin6monthsofthisresolutionbeing passed 2.AffirmsthattheWestBankshouldbegiventothePalestiniansastheirownsovereignstateaswellas theGazaStrip a.PassageshallbegrantedtothePalestiniansfromtheIsraeligovernmentinordertovisittheir holysites b.WillbegrantedcompletesovereigntyovertheWestBankandthefreedomtoestablisha governmentastheyseefit 3.RemindsthemembersoftheUNthatifthePalestiniansweregiventheWestBank,itwould opentradingtoandfromthePalestiniansamongtheotherArabcountriesinthesurroundingarea 4.AffirmingthatIsraelwouldlosenolandiftheyweretoacceptthisoffer,andtheywouldstillhavea Jewishmajoritystate 5.Confirmingthatifthetwostatesolutionfails,theUswouldfullysupportthecreationofonestate combiningbothIsraelandPalestineterritoriesinwhichthePalestiniansandtheIsraelisbothlivedin peacewithoneanother 6.AffirmsthatthissinglestateforbothJewsandPalestinianswouldbeastateofdemocracy a.BothJewsandArabswouldbegrantedequalrights,andnobiaswouldpresentitself betweenthetwoinanyformofgovernment b.IsraelwouldstillberecognizedasaJewishstateandstillpossessthenameIsrael 7.RecognizingthattheUnitedStateswishestopasstheonestatesolutiononlyifthetwostatesolution weretoberemovedfromnegotiations,andtheonestatesolutionremains 8.UrgingthemembersoftheUNtoconsiderthetwostatesolutionasapossibleremedyinthisconflict, andthattheU.SproposesthisresolutioninthehopesofbringingpeacetotheJewsandtheArabs.
