In this task, you and your mini-presentation group members are required to teach the
class a number of medical and health care terms – their structure, meaning and
pronunciation, in the lecture from Week 6 to Week 10. You will be assessed on your
performance as an individual (75%) and as a group (25%).
The objectives of this task are to assess how well you and your group members are able
to:
Explain the structure and meaning of medical and health care terms methodically and
correctly;
Demonstrate how to apply the knowledge learned on syllables, stress, uncommon
sounds and soft and hard sounds to pronouncing medical and health care terms,
methodically and correctly;
Conduct in fluent spoken English a presentation effectively to an audience within a
given time limit.

III. Guidelines
You are to form yourselves into mini-presentation groups of 5 members each. Each
group will be assigned a vocabulary list by the lecturer, in which ten terms are
underlined. On the presentation day of your group, each group member will take turn to
present two of the underlined terms to the class. You are expected to make effective use
of what you have learned in Week 3 and Week 4 about the structure and pronunciation of
medical and health care terms, with a view to help the class:
(a) Understand the structure and meaning of the terms presented, and
(b) Pronounce those terms correctly.
There is a strict time limit of 10 minutes for a group with 5 members, i.e. approximately 2
minutes per presenter. In your presentation, you may use the white board and other
visual aids, but NO audio aids are allowed. Also, reading from a script is strictly
prohibited (a fail grade will be given to those who read from a script).
Note: If your group has 4 members, you will present a total of eight terms; and the time
you have will be 8 minutes.
