Annotated Bibliography ! Why dont Chinese know about Tiananmen Square Massacre? !

1. http://www.theatlantic.com/china/archive/2013/06/how-china-made-the-tiananmensquare-massacre-irrelevant/276500/! ! This article is about how Chinese still misunderstand 64 protest after 20 years. It tells how Chinese government controlled their people to know the truth about it by not being democratic.! ! One limitation of the source is the author. First of all, he is not Chinese, and he might have a different perspective, because he lives in democratic country so it is understandable he prefer democracy. But it is helpful because the author can think about China in democratic way, he knows China would make a lot of good decisions if it becomes democratic. Most Chinese can not think like that because they never lived in democratic society.! ! Because my source is about why Chinese dont know about the Tiananmen Square Massacre, so this source is helpful to me. It tells me how Chinese still not have human rights like they did not 20 years ago. Chinese government didnt make any signicant reform so they could not become democratic. Chinese still can not go on the certain website such as Youtube and Google.!

! 2. The Tiananmen Square Massacre Wil Mara! !

! This books mainly explained the happening of Tiananmen Square Massacre, and what pro-democracy movement means. Then it tells us why the military attacked the protester, also, how the Chinese government handled the aftermath.! ! It can be limited source again because the author is not Chinese. However, being an foreigner can also give value to my research, because for this event I am researching on, I need perspective from what other think about it and what Chinese think about it. The photographs next to his text made me discover more about this event. Wil Mara also talked about Mao instead of the massacre as a whole.! ! This book helps with my research a lot, because Mara explained much more than the day of the Massacre, he talked about Maos death and how the party is changing after that. He provided more events happened before the protests so it gave me more views on this event.!

! 3. Tank Man! !

! Tank man is a great documentary about Tiananmen Square Massacre, especially the moment when a young man stood in front a dangerous tank without any armed weapon, who is named Tank Man.! ! This is a helpful source because it gave me visually expression of this protest and it made me feel closer what truly happen that day. It showed how Chinese government handled the protesters. However, the limitation is that this documentary focused a lot more on the person who called Tank Man, and I think a overall introduction of this event could be more helpful.! ! This documentary allowed me to understand the cruelty of what government had done, it gave the ideas of adding a gallery on the website that I am making. I think it can make people understand this much better. Especially why Chinese government is ashamed of telling the truth after so many years.
