In my opinion, accountancy is all about precision and details. These values were closely tied with moral integrity.

The moot of this belief started when I realized my family business encountered an administrative problem. This is due to unethical management of funds. Uncontrolled overheads, unresponsible cash drawings and not to say window dressing of the books. Prior to these behaviors, the companys financial status was severely harmed and might face bankruptcy. I suggested to my mother, as the major shareholder to retire as a partner from the business or else she might losses her capital. The problem was made more complicated as the auditing firm of the company afraid to lose an account. Therefore, the firm did some unethical tactics to delay the dissolution. No moral integrity was displayed. I tried to convince my mother to proceed with the dissolution. I helped her to calculate assets that she is entitled to, based on her percentage of shares and the partnership agreement. It is much more interesting in real life as to compare how excited I was when I could balance each ledger in the books in during exams. I will make sure that I will be an accountant that will make decision on truthful and fair basis. While helping my mother, I realized how deep my passion was in accountancy. Consequently, I have reached a firm decision in pursuing Accounting for my degree, by taking Accounting, Economics, Sociology and Mathematics for my A-levels despite scoring well with 9A+ in the sciences for SPM (GCSEO equivalent). Economics made me realize there is no absolute truth. It is up to humans wisdom to prioritize in every action. Sociology helps me to understand a social phenomenon in diversified views. This subject did help me with my reasoning skill as it requires critical response. Accounting, as usual trained me with analytical problem solving with precise workings. I planned to take up finance or economics module in line with accounting to widen my knowledge about worlds business arena. Despite sustaining good academic reputation, I do enjoy participating in a lot of activities outside the class. I am currently the team captain of my colleges debating team. Debate trained me to stick up for my own argument. In doing that, I have to assess the opponents case quickly and to build my rebuttals. As the team captain, it is very hard to motivate my teammates to rise up after a lost. I have to convince them that there is always a way for us to proceed to the next level even though realizing the slim chance of it. Besides that, Ive been a project manager for an annual camp in my college. I have to prepare a proposal, securing financial aid from the college and getting members of my club to join the camp. My skills in decision making was truly challenged to its limit, as I have to be very strict with the costing because I managed to procure only a small amount of assistance. Less funds means less activities, yet I could not disappoint the participants with less activities. Eventually, I have to cut down extra expenses like snacks and travelling cost. Even Ive held several positions, I would like to envision myself as a good team player. Performing a particular task given is harder than giving out orders especially when the task calls for help. As a committee for sponsorship of a charity gala dinner, I have to be smart and tactful in expressing my opinion on how to collect funds for dinner. I suggested to go with an approach like to request corporate sponsorship as it consumes less time while others against it. Again, I tried to convince them the benefits of it and eventually they agreed. My committee managed to collect RM15000 for an orphanage. With the skills I have I hope that I could pursue my degree in accountancy in this university so that I could be empowered will all the knowledge that are essentials for me to be a good accountant.
