Any cancellation or replacement must be conveyed to the Organizer in writing. A cancellation charge of 20% of the fee will be levied if the cancellation is received before 31st January 2014. PROLOGUE
This will be the 5th course of the successful and well received series of Maternal Medicine courses organised by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Singapore General Hospital. Maternal medicine refers to the management of medical disorders in pregnancy, which are many, and this two course course focuses on the more important and common medical conditions. Obstetric medicine is often daunting to both obstetricians, who may feel inadequately trained in general medicine, and also to physicians who may be uncomfortable with managing a woman with a constantly changing physiology and a developing baby on board.

OVERSEAS SPEAKERS
Prof Bill HAGUE Obstetric Medicine Womens and Childrens Health The University of Adelaide Prof Hague is involved in the Australasian Maternity Outcomes Surveillance System (AMOSS). His clinical service work, teaching and research achievements were recognised by The University of Adelaide with a promotion to full Professor in November 2011. His contributions include the first robust demonstration of the efficacy and safety of metformin in women with gestational diabetes (the MiG Study) in collaboration with Dr Janet Rowan from Auckland, published in the NEJM in 2008. He also founded the Obstetric Medicine Group of Australasia (OMGA), and in 2009 became the first Honorary Member of the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (SOMANZ), following the amalgamation of OMGA and the Australasian Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy (ASSHP), of which he is a former President. A/Prof Sandra LOWE Royal Hospital for Women School of Womens and Childrens Health University of New South Wales A/Prof Lowe speaks regularly at National and International conferences of Obstetric Medicine and she has a long-standing interest in teaching obstetric medicine. She has published numerous articles including national guidelines on the management of hypertension in pregnancy in Australia and contributed chapters to a number of textbooks of obstetric medicine. A/Prof Lowe is the Founding Co-editor of the international journal; Obstetric Medicine. She has had longstanding executive roles with both local and international Societies of Obstetric Medicine and is currently Vice-President of the International Society of Obstetric Medicine.

This course is therefore aimed at both obstetricians and physicians caring for pregnant women, hoping to put all at ease and dispel any misconceptions about management so as to optimise obstetric outcomes. As in previous courses, we are very fortunate in having some of the foremost international experts in Obstetric Medicine . Our key speakers this time, Prof Bill Hague and Prof Sandra Lowe both hail from Australia, and between them have a considerable experience in dealing with medical problems in pregnancy.
This course promises to be intensive and stimulating, and I look forward to seeing you.
