APPLICATIONS
NIGHT VISION TYPES
ATN makes two different types of night vision devices based on two different kinds of technologies. The most common of the two is image intensification technology, which is what most people think of when they talk about night vision. This kind of device uses whatever ambient light is available and amplifies it into a visible image. ATN also makes night vision devices based on thermal imaging technology. This type of device can detect heat, or thermal energy. Sometimes referred to as infrared viewing, thermal imaging devices can be used in total darkness, and are effective in environments where smoke, fog, and solid obstacles might obscure ones view.
NIGHT VISION
Night vision equipment plays an important role in the operations of military, law enforcement, and security personnel. Police surveillance, homeland security, criminal investigation, border patrol, and Special Forces operations are but a few of the applications for which ATN products are effectively put to use. ATNs state-of-the-art night vision products have been the equipment of choice for many government agencies worldwide as well as for Federal, State, and Municipal departments in the U.S. Night vision has also become popular among hunters, sport shooters and other outdoor enthusiasts. Infrared sensitive devices have gained in popularity and demand, due in large part to their increasing affordability. As a result, the technology is now expanding beyond the more traditional applications, such as police surveillance, military defense, and night time security. ABOUT THERMAL
THERMAL IMAGING
All objects, both natural and manmade, emit infrared energy as heat. By detecting very subtle temperature differences of everything in view, infrared (or thermal imaging) technology reveals what otherwise would be invisible to the naked eye. A thermal imaging device uses a special lens that focuses infrared light into an array of infrared detector elements. The detector elements create a detailed temperature pattern called a thermogram, which is translated into electric impulses. The impulses are sent to a signal-processing unit, a circuit board with a dedicated chip that sends the information through an electronic display component. The resulting image will appear in various colors depending on the intensity of the infrared emission.

Infrared energy is emitted proportionately to the temperature of an object.
Infrared energy from objects in the scene is focused by an optic lens. The energy is focused onto an infrared detector. The information is passed to sensor electronics for image processing.
The signal processing circuitry translates the infrared detector data into an image that can be viewed on a electronic display.

THERMAL IMAGING AND FRAME RATE

One of the most important specifications of any thermal imaging device is frame rate. This refers to the number of frames per second that can be viewed by the device. The lower the frame rate, the choppier the motion. Conversely, the higher the frame rate, the more precise the motion. This is especially critical in weapon scope applications that require precise and quick acquisition. Standard professional thermal systems come in 30hz (Fast Imaging or FI) while many commercial viewers run at 9hz (Standard Imaging or SI). In 2012, ATN is proud to offer 60hz (Enhanced Imaging or EI) options for most of its thermal systems. With Enhanced Imaging you will never have to worry about hitting behind the moving target because your skill outpaces the technology in your scope.

ATN Thermal Imaging Has Gone Digital! ATN is proud to introduce the newest line of ThOR Thermal Weapon Scopes. The most advanced night vision technology available is brought to you by the premier company dedicated to providing night vision systems at affordable prices. The new ThOR line is rich with features and options making it the best value of any comparable system on the market. This model is lightweight and small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, yet its rugged and durable. The entire system is built in the USA, utilizing Mil-Spec Lenses that make the ThOR battle-worthy for most any mission, operation, or outdoor activity. Each system features a digital menu that gives you a variety of options and adjustments allowing you to customize your system. You can select a number of reticle options (4 standard) as well as choose a reticle color best suited for your specific application. No more black reticles on a black and white screen ThOR features a color OLED display giving you a sharp color reticle every time. Or switch to full color mode (5 available) and overlay it with either a black, green or red reticle depending on the conditions and the environment. Ever have problems with a scope not being able to hold zero? The ThOR has no screws or springs that can create targeting errors. With all digital controls, the ThOR will NEVER allow your reticle to move off base. The new ThOR is available in two basic models, the ThOR-320 (320x240) and the ThOR-640 (640x480). They feature a number of lens options as well as Fast or Enhanced Imaging capability. These scopes provide amazing image quality through total darkness, fog, or smoke. Darkness, camouflage or bright lights will not affect the sensitivity of these units. All units have feature E-Zoom to expand your optical magnification. ATN Mini-Thermal Imaging Monocular. The Odin Series is one of the smallest Thermal Imaging Monocular Systems today. It features extremely small size and low weight because of its advanced construction and characteristics using the latest technologies in high grade polymers to make a Mil. Spec, system that is identical in size, weight and shape to a AN/PVS-14. The Odin series is a multi-purpose system using the latest in miniature thermal sensor technology combined with an advanced OLED Display to provide a superior stable image in a compact and rugged package. The system also includes an array of features that help the user to enhance the sight to meet all of their requirements. The Odin system is designed for hand held, head mounted and weapon mounted operations. It uses most of the same accessories as the AN/PVS-14 Night Vision Monocular System. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY
The world has changed much in the two decades since ATNs first entry into the Night Vision arena. Just like with the advent of the Internet and the Smart Phone, so has the world of night vision gone through its own transformation. Advances in new sensors and microdisplays have opened up a world of possibilities that were simply not available before. Over the past several years ATN has led in the development of new digital Thermal Systems primarily designed for our Military and Law Enforcement clients. Leveraging on these advances we have launched our first Ultra Bright digital line of night vision products. Previously, digital was characterized by mostly bulky systems with poor quality displays featuring very dim images. However, with advances made in our new Full Color OLED and FLCOS displays ATN has managed to develop products that have routinely outperformed other night vision systems in image brightness and effective recognition/identification ranges. Coupled together with our new generation of both CCD and CMOS sensors ATN is proud to present its new Ultra Bright Digital Night Vision Systems.

ADVANCED LOW-LIGHT SENSOR TECHNOLOGY: Our R&D staff spent significant resources searching for the right CCD and CMOS sensors to couple with our proprietary driver boards to create our digital systems. Performance, light gain and reliability is the driving force behind our designs. DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY: The right display goes a long way in how a digital device works. If you have the wrong display then you simply are not getting the best performance out of the sensor. This is why we made sure we matched the correct display and sensor together to give you a quality, high performance system. MANUAL BRIGHTNESS/GAIN ADJUSTMENT: An advanced manual brightness/gain adjustment allows the user to adjust the brightness of the unit to its surrounding area maximizing image clarity and light gain.
FACTS ABOUT DIGITAL VS. CLASSICAL INTENSIFIED TUBE SOLUTIONS:

Unlike an Intensifier tube, Ultra Bright digital scopes do not have to worry about exposure to bright light. Even though today, all ATN systems have bright light protection, still long exposure to bright light will damage an intensifier tube. These issues simply do not exist in the digital products. Plus since they are fully color you can often find plenty of uses for our systems during day time operations. Our Ultra Bright scopes offer the ability to adjust brightness levels according to your need. Most Intensified systems do not offer that ability. Many of the digital systems offer various ways to record what you see. With classical Intensified systems it is also possible to record night time scenes but requires additional camera equipment that is attached via camera adapter to the night vision scope.

ABOUT NIGHT VISION

IMAGE INTENSIFICATION NIGHT VISION
At the heart of this type of night vision device is the image intensifier tube (IIT). The tube gathers existing ambient light (including starlight, moonlight or infra-red light) through the front lens. This light, which is made up of photons goes into a photocathode tube that changes the photons to electrons. The electrons are then amplified to a much greater number through an electrical and chemical process. The electrons are then hurled against a phosphorus screen that changes the amplified electrons back into visible light that you see through the eyepiece. The image will now be a clear green-hued amplified re-creation of the scene you were observing.

HOW FAR YOU CAN SEE

There are a few variables that can affect the distance you can see with a night vision device. The larger the object the easier it is to see is one obvious factor. The degree of detail you can see from a given distance will depend in part on the type of device you are using. Lighting conditions play a large part in determining distance range. the more ambient light you have (starlight, moonlight, and infrared light) the better and further you will be able to see. You can always see further on a night when the moon and stars are out, than when its cloudy or overcast. We typically state that you can tell the difference between a male and a female or a dog and a deer at about 75 to 100 yards. However, if you were looking across an open field and there was a half moon out you could see a barn or a house 500 yards away.
DEVICE CLASSIFICATIONS
NIGHT VISION DEVICE CLASSIFICATIONS
Night vision devices are categorized according to the technical specifications of the image intensifier tube. Throughout the years there has been substantial improvement over all generations of image intensifier tubes. Each type has progressively improved and benefitted by new technologies. Pending specifications and technology level, our units are designated as either a 1st, 2nd, CGT, HPT, WPT, 3rd or G4 Autogated/Filmless device. 1st generation is currently the most popular type of night vision in the world. Utilizing the basic principles described earlier, a 1st generation unit will amplify the existing light several thousand times letting you clearly see in the dark. These units provide a bright visible image at a low cost, which makes them a popular choice for boating, observing wildlife, or providing security for the home. 2nd generation is primarily used by law enforcement, and has a variety of other professional applications. Consequently, 2nd Gen. units are more expensive than the comparable 1st Gen. units. 2nd generation devices have an additional micro-channel plate, commonly referred to as an MCP. This added component allows 2nd generation devices to amplify the light many more times than 1st generation, producing a brighter and sharper image. 3rd generation units contain a sensitive chemical, gallium arsenide, within the photocathode. The result is an image thats brighter and sharper than 2nd generation units. An ion barrier film is also added to increase tube life. 3rd Gen. provides the user with excellent low light performance. G4 Autogated/Filmless. G4 technology is the latest advance in image intensification. The filmless micro-channel plate provides a higher signal-tonoise ratio than standard 3rd Gen. IITs, resulting in better image quality under low-light conditions. An autogated power supply further improves image resolution by reducing halo effect interference from bright light sources. G4 devices represent top of the line performance in the night vision market.

The CGT type of image intensifier tubes are engineered for significantly enhanced performance over current 2nd Generation IITs. The CGT IIT is a Multi-Alkali compact 18mm format MCP image intensifier.

ATN WPT REPRESENTS A NEW STANDARD FOR NIGHT VISION
In ATNs continuing effort to supply our clients with cutting edge Night Vision solutions we are proud to introduce a new line of select units based on ATN White Phosphor Technology(WPT). Studies show that nighttime scenes appear remarkably more natural in black and white versus the usual green. B&W provides clearer information about contrast, shapes and shadows. ATNs White Phosphor Technology provides users with this natural B&W Night Vision Image. Operators that tested units that use ATN WPT reported a significantly better degree of detail, overall contrast, full moon similarity and range of shades. WPT provides more discriminating shades of intensity between white and black than between green and black resulting in better contrast and depth perception then when compared to green phosphor NVG's. The majority of the WPT performance characteristics are on par or better then the latest Gallium Arsenide based image intensifier tubes. 7 out of 10 users name WPT as a Night Vision Preference when compared with common green Night Vision, especially in an urban environment. ATN 6015-WPT NIGHT VISION MONOCULARS NOW NTOA TESTED AND RECOMMENDED
National Tactical Officer's Association (NTOA) has completed its review and testing of the ATN 6015-WPT Night Vision Monocular and has received an overall score of 4.9 out of a possible 5. The ATN 6015-WPT monocular is based on ATN's successful PVS-14 system used by the U.S. Military. The ATN 6015-WPT can be hand-held, head/helmet-mounted for hands free usage can be adapted to be used with cameras or camcorders. The ATN 6015-WPT also features ATN's latest Night Vision innovation of White Phospor Technology in which the viewer sees a crisp black and white image instead of the traditional green glowing image. This new technology allows for a clearer image with more detail and greater depth perception; critical elements for law enforcement and private security surveillance. The officers performing the tests rated the performance, design, ease-of-use, quality, versatility, and convenience with high scores of 4.9 or above. ...wildlife study of observing flying waterfowl interactions with obstructions dictated the need to have fine resolution at distances up to 300+ yds and good depth of field. ...NVM14-WPT provided greater range of detection, greater recognition, provided finer detail, and provided better depth of field at all ranges. The initial impression of comparing the white phosphorus image to the green image is that the green image is brighter. However, after viewing the white image for a short period of time (a minute or two) that impression changes to the green image producing a glare-type image and the white phosphorus producing a non-glaring, detailed image, like looking at a black and white photo. When using the scope continuously for extended periods of time, the white image also seems less stressful. The Commission is very pleased with the performance of the NVM14-WPT for the current application and believes that it will provide very good performance for a variety of other applications.

The ATN Javelin Series is a compact yet powerful Duty/Tactical Flashlight, suitable for carrying during patrol duties or for the outdoor enthusiast. The J68 has a powerful high intensity 200 lumen halogen bulb. The J125 is identical in features as the J125 but additonal has four modes of lighting control: Full bright, Half bright, Strobe, SOS signal. The ATN Javelin J600 Tactical Flashlight has a powerful 600 lumen LED bulb. The metal bulb housing is designed to withstand accidental drops and remain water resistant. During an emergency the flashlights bezel can be used as a glass breaker or as a self defense tool.

The ATN Javelin Series Tactical Flashlight can be carried by hand or attached to a weapon by a mount. These devices are designed for any kind of environment or circumstance. Compact and durable, the ATN Javelin flashlights are suitable for Police, Military, EMS and civilian use. The flashlights have a modular bezel in front, which can be used as an attacking bezel by Law Enforcement personnel or as a defensive tool. This powerful flashlight can also be a defensive deterrent. In a dark environment, a brief flash can temporarily blind an oncoming attacker for as long as 10 seconds. ATN Javelin J600W has a powerful 600 lumen LEDs.
