FILM TOURISM

Film Tourism is defined as tourist visits to the destination based on television, video, or cinema screen. So, when people are seeking sights seen on the Film Tourism, they are film-induced tourists. The reason of film-induced tourists make a travel to visit destinations in the Film Tourism that they watched before is to enhance their memories by associating them with the actors, event and setting. For destinations, Film Tourism do not only provide short-term tourism revenue but also long-term prosperity. Many heritage sites that serve as film locations gain popularity after the film release because these places acquire specific meaning through film narration. Film Tourism can enhance the destination image and increase the awareness of the host community. Another interesting aspects of film tourism is, it can be enduring. A Film Tourism can continue to draw visitors year after year. So that can be alleviating problems of seasonality. Beside of the advantage, there are some potential negative impacts from this holiday type. For example the film location will not have the carrying capacity to cope with large increases in visitors. This could result in a number of possible undesirable consequences, such as increased vehicle traffic, pedestrian congestion, loss of privacy and local facilities for locals, and the destruction of the natural environment. Another problem that could occur is that when the location appears different than how it is portrayed in the film, there may be a resulting loss of visitor satisfaction

Bali was became a location of Film Tourism, and one of the most famous film is Eat, Pray, Love. This Film based from a novel which is the authors experience. Starring by Julia Roberts as Liz Gilbert make this Film Tourism is very interesting. This film tell about a women who frustration with her life after she divorce with her husband, so she want to change her life and become a new Liz. She make a travel to Italia, India and Bali. She go to Bali to get a balance of her body and soul with love. While In Bali she meet Ketut Liyer, a medicine man that can be predict a persons future. Ketut Liyer tell to her that she will find her true love in Bali. After the release of the film, Ketut Liyer visited by 50 tourists every day. The tourist visit him to get a prediction about themselves like Liz, the women in Eat, Pray, Love. Indonesia also have many film tourism, and one of the most famous is Laskar Pelangi. This film is also based from a novel with a same name by Andrea Hirata. The location of this film is in Belitung. After the film released, the school that serve as film location visited by tourists. The same thing happen with the beach. Many visitor attempted to copy the scene in this film when the characters stand on the rock. This film also give an image to Belitung as Laskar Pelangi Land. The next success film tourism that create a new favorite destination in the world is The Beach. This film tell about a man name Richard (Leonardo Dicaprio), a young American backpacker in Thailand who want to live at a secret island with a hidden paradise beach. The location of this film is in Phi-Phi Island at Thailand, and the name of the beach is Maya Bay. After the film was released in 2000, the youth market tourist to this destination increase about 22%. Many film locations around the world become the pull factors for tourists to visit. The same thing happen with film locations of Korean Films and Dramas. An evidence of emotional attachment that the film-induced tourists have with the films is the recreation of the impressive scene at the filmed locations. In Winter Sonata, the impressive scene that the audience has is when the lovers hold hands while walking on the log. As many visitors attempted to copy the scene from their favorite film, the famous log has been broken and removed from the location since it cannot cope with large number of visitors.

Advice 1. Government must be support the producers of films tourism to make a Film tourism about the destination in their region. 2. After the film was released, the government or stakeholders can make a tour package about the film tourism. Conclusion Film Tourism is defined as tourist visits to the destination based on television, video or cinema screen. The success of film locations rely on the success of films. Some film locations are much more successful than others in terms of the number of tourist arrivals. Although films provide many positive impacts for the destination in terms of economic, cultural values and destination awareness and image, drawbacks of the film should also be carefully considered. This could be undesirable consequences such as loss of privacy and the difficulty of accessing local facilities for local people, traffic congestion and the destruction of the natural environment.
