Schools Focus: Safe, Respectful and Healthy Schools How You Can Make a Difference!
Are you a youth or adult interested in making a difference in the schools in your community and across the nation? Come to this Daylong Institute to learn about the current state of LGBT issues in schools across the country, and what YOU can do to improve it. Whether you interact daily with a school community or are an interested bystander who wants to get involved, well share tools for you to advocate for and implement effective evidence-based interventions at the state and local level both personally and by providing information and resources to others. As part of the day, well also have local safe schools advocates sharing their stories, challenges and successes. This institute is appropriate for any who are interested in safer schools whether youve been doing the work already for years or are just preparing to dive in. If you are a more experienced schools advocate/organizer, please be prepared to share some of your best practices in discussion sessions. Sex Justice: Mapping Our Desire

What are we doing in bed and why does it matter? How is the pursuit of our personal desire relevant to our work for justice? The modern LGBT movement was founded on a belief that in our sexual and gender persecution lay the seeds of a transformative sexuality that could topple a classist, racist, sexist, homo-bi-and trans-phobic order. Ironically, the struggle for and emphasis on relationship recognition in the public square has forced an erasure of sex from view in our movement conversations, organizations and agendas. At the Task Force, we believe that an authentic, empowered sexuality is a tremendous asset to any movement for justice. This years Sex Justice Institute will focus on our desires: how we have shaped them and how they have shaped us. In this space, we can begin to consider: What is Just Sex? How can my personal claiming of my desire foster more just sexual communities? Where do I begin? LGBTQ Campus Resource Professionals Institute

This Institute sponsored by the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals (the Consortium) provides professional development, skills building, and networking for those who have a professional role supporting LGBTQ people on college and university campuses. The institute is grounded in anti-racism and social justice principles and focuses on access, inclusion and equity for LGBTQ students and employees in higher education. This session is designed for those who engage in, or plan to engage in, LGBTQ work on college campuses.
