Introduction As a recognized student organization, our club or organization acknowledges the need to adopt a risk management policy. We recognize that even if our clubs activities do not involve physical, financial or legal risks, the exercise of discussing potential risks associated with our upcoming activities is still a useful one. he !oncept of a "isk #anagement $olicy A risk management policy is intended as an overall guideline for how our organization will identify and manage its risks. A risk is the possibility of something occurring that will have a negative impact on the groups collective ob%ectives. It can involve such things as potential for physical harm, financial loss, property damage, negative publicity or problems complying with the law or &niversity rules. "isk is often measured in terms of likelihood and severity of loss. 'ome examples of common risks include( traveling, crowd control, alcohol and hazing. $hysical risks may include sporting events, weapons usage, operation of machinery or lab e)uipment. *ther risks to consider are financial or reputation risks, emotional risks, presence of non+"ice participants or spectators ,especially young children-, and hazards associated with events held outdoors after dusk. *rganization leaders and their sponsors must identify potential risks and implement procedures to minimize these risks, part of this process involves assessing the likelihood that an adverse event may occur.
