House Hold LPG

Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG), used widely in the household kitchens, industries and commercial establishments. Normally, the gas is stored in liquid form under pressure in a steel container, cylinder or tank. LPG is a gas at atmospheric pressure and normal ambient temperatures, but it can be liquefied when moderate pressure is applied or when the temperature is sufficiently reduced. When buying your LPG:

Always buy LPG cylinders from government authorised dealers only. When the LPG cylinder is delivered to your home, please check to ensure that the Gas seal should be present and intact. Do not accept the cylinder if the seal is broken. Always use BIS approved appliances (regulators and rubber tubes) from authorised LPG distributor only.

Before using your LPG:

Keep the cylinders away from other sources of heat Check the cylinder valve to ensure that the rubber o ring is present inside Never keep kerosene or other stoves on the floor where an LPG cylinder is in use Always store the LPG cylinder in an upright position at ground level in a well-ventilated place Always keep the gas stove on a platform above the cylinder level Check for leak if any Do not have curtains on the windows near the gas stove

When cooking with LPG:

Always use cotton clothes and cotton apron while cooking, never use synthetic clothes like silk chiffon, etc. Do-not keep electrical appliances like refrigerator inside the kitchen, power fluctuation in them can act as a source of fire in case of leakage Do not place flammable or plastic items near the flame. Never leave your cooking unattended. The sauce or liquid in your cooking vessel could overflow and extinguish the burners, causing gas to leak.

In case of leak in LPG:

Do not panic, Close the regulator and burner knobs Open all doors and windows for ventilation. Do not operate electrical switches or appliances in the room Isolate the main electrical supply from the outside only. Put off all flames, lamps, and incense stick etc. Call your distributor or service cell for help

LPG maintenance:

Always keep the LPG valve / regulator switched off when your gas stove / oven are not in use, especially at night and when going on a holiday. Always keep rubber tube uncovered and visible Check rubber tube regularly for cracks, change rubber tube at least once in two years Make sure all parts of the installation are in good condition. If you should find anything wrong with any part, contact your distributor immediately and ask for assistance. Never tamper with your LPG cylinder. Get your gas appliances serviced periodically Self-repairs unsafe. Call distributors mechanic for repairs.

Checking the expiry of LPG cylinders: Expired Cylinders are not safe for use and may cause accidents. In this regard, please be cautious at the time of accepting any LPG cylinder from the distributor. On one of three side stems of the cylinder, the expiry date is coded alpha numerically as follows A or B or C or D and some two digit number following this e.g. D06. The alphabets stand for quarters: 1. A for March (First Qtr.) 2. B for June (Second Qtr.) 3. C for Sept (Third Qtr.) 4. D for December (Fourth Qtr.) The digits stand for the year till it is valid. Hence D06 would mean December Qtr. of 2006. Please Return Back the Cylinder that you get with an already expired Date, they are prone to Leak and other Hazardous accidents. The second example with D14 allows the cylinder to be in use until Dec 2014.
