1. The context: European Interoperable Corridors and Romania 2. Key to Interoperabilty: the European Traffic Management System ERTMS 3. The Ansaldo references in European Signalling 4. The Ansaldo scope of work for the Campina-Predeal Project

Deliver a trans European rail service: Recognised as competitive with the other modes of transport Excellent in terms of safety, punctuality and reliability supported by: A systematic pursuit of the best cost-effective performance A financing plan of the investments fairly shared by the Member-States, the infrastructure companies, the railway undertakings and the European Union An ambitious investment programme in infrastructure and rolling stock, based on the coordinated implementation of ERTMS

The Context: TEN-T Trans European Network

The context: European Corridors in Romania

The context: European Corridors in Romania

The challenges The opportunities

A non-interoperable legacy: Signalling

The past: only ad-hoc route specific solutions

New Interoperable Infrastructure to be built Existing infrasctructure to be made interoperable The Signalling problem

The Interoperable solution: ERTMS

ERTMS and ETCS

ERTMS is the Automatic Train Control system developed by the 6 major European signalling companies

ERTMS European Railway Traffic Management System ETCS European Train Control System

10

11

12

ERTMS is a failsafe system that protects the train travel

ERTMS is composed by trainborne equipment and trackside equipment

ERTMS is the system to be used in Europe by law

Directive 96/48/EC Interoperability of TransEuropean High Speed Rail System Directive 2001/16/EC Interoperability of TransEuropean Conventional Rail System Unified by 2004/50/EC: identical requirements both Conventional and High Speed

13

14

15

The Three Levels of ERTMS

ERTMS Level 1

In ERTMS Level 1 Track to Train data is transmitted via standardized transponders : the Eurobalises

16

17

18

Eurobalises are installed along the tracks and connected to the existing signalling system

24

Why the law enforces ERTMS?

ERTMS: Where is it used?

ERTMS Systems: the Ansaldo References

ERTMS allows the uninterrupted travel of passengers and goods through national boundaries ERTMS is standard for Europe so it opens the European market for railway products ERTMS increases the capacity of existing railways ERTMS improves the Safety of existing railways

Fitting of new high speed lines and trains Retrofitting of conventional trains for interoperable service Retrofitting of conventional lines as overlay on the existing signalling system

The Operator Terminal function for the Traffic Manager

allows the Traffic Manager to enter commands in the system using the mouse (or touch-screen) and a graphic interface with windows

Traffic commands via the icons it is possible to

Command the formation and cancellation of Routes Command the formation and cancellation of Shunting Routes Handle points Handling m ain signals Command shunting signals Manage level crossings Manage track circuits

43

44

45

The flexibility of the Terminal function makes it possible to

For example, clicking on the button associated to point management

an interactive window is activated listing the controllable devices and the possible commands

Customize the Detailed Layout Handle equipment commands Handle individual device commands Handle targeted device auxiliary commands Handle device-related alarms

46

47

48

the graphic aspect of representation of points change depending on their status

A functional keyboard is also present

The list of alarms is available on all the diagnosis and maintenance posts, providing

for emergency operations as an alternative to the Operator Terminal

time of onset identification of the com ponent in alarm alarm description type of alarm (onset unknown, onset rec ognized, withdrawn) alarm status alarm severity

The SimPC tool has been developed in order to realize an interface dedicated

Using only the ke yboard and the mouse, the operator can navigate inside the equipme nt down to the single device controller and can view in detail..
