I think Spring is finally here. The weather is warm. The trees are in bloom. It is a beautiful time of year. I hope you are enjoying the longer days and getting outside to play. We have begun our final quarter of this school year. Where has the time gone? Our 5th graders will head to Chapin Middle next week to get a firsthand view of their new school and what to expect when they leave LMES. Later this month, we will welcome the rising kindergarten students as they take a tour of LMES. If you have a child who will be 5 by September 1st or know someone who does, remind them that they need to get registered for kindergarten. The first of three kindergarten orientations will be held April 23rd at 9:00 am. No registration is necessary. Please plan to attend our PTO meeting next Tuesday, April 8th. This is a very important presentation on Technology Safety sponsored by our PTO and SIC. We will begin at 7:00 pm in our Dockside Theater. This a an adult only meeting. There will be sessions lead by guidance counselors on technology safety for 4th & 5th graders. Kindergarten through 3rd grade students may watch a movie in the gym during the parent presentation. We are unable to accommodate children who are not kindergarten age. You will need to make other plans for them. Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening.

Crooked Park Art Show April 2014


Its time for the annual Chapin Celebrates the Arts at Crooked Creek Park Art Show. This show features work from all Chapin cluster schools, K-12th grade. Inclement Weather MakeMake-Up Days


The Board of Trustees approved the administrations' recommendation for inclement weather make-up days. We had a total of four inclement weather days (January 29 and February 12 -14). We already made-up one day (February 17). The bill passed by the SC legislature and signed by the Governor requires that all scheduled make-up days be used before any days can be forgiven. June 6 is the only remaining make-up day. Therefore, we will make-up a second day on June 6. The remaining two inclement weather days were forgiven and will not be made-up. Extending the school year by one day, requires that the half day schedule shift one day as well. June 3 will now be a full school day. June 4, 5, and 6 will be half days.

Every school in South Carolina is required by the Education Improvement Act to have a School Improvement Council. The council serves as an advisory committee to the principal and assists with establishing and implementing goals for the school. The council also helps establish priorities for the capital expenditures budget, the incentive budget and the operational budget for the school. At various times, SIC members are asked to represent the school on district committees. The School Improvement Council is composed of elected and appointed teachers, parents, and community members. Our current council consists of the following elected parents from our school. Rotating off the council this year: Lisa Duncan Jo Anne Hill Jennifer Thornsberry Vera Timmons The following parents will serve their second year during 2014-2015 school year: Robby Aull Michael Sechrest Each year parents elect their representatives to serve on the council. Three people elected will begin their term of service in the 2014-2015 school year and will rotate off the council at the end of the 2015-2016 school year. One person elected will only serve during the 2014-2015 school year. Before submitting a nomination, we request that you ask the person for permission to submit his/her name. It is important that those nominated be willing to serve as a representative for the school. If you are interested in running, please nominate yourself. Elected parents should have a child who will be at Lake Murray Elementary for the length of time of their service on the council.

To register for kindergarten, your child must be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014.
