Taylor Wooltorton Media Question 3 What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

One of the positive points to a focus group is you are able to gain a deeper understanding of complex issues facing your work. When getting feedback from your audience, you want it to be detailed so you are able to find out what there dislikes and likes are, what they expect to see from the product, and things they would like to see improved. With a focus group, you are able to use a smaller amount of your target audience, and get their feedback face to face, and really listen to their opinion and what they have to say about your product, whereas with something like a questionnaire, there isnt any personal time spent your audience to find out what they really think. However, one of the negative points of a focus group is its a lower amount of audience compared to questionnaires and using the internet. Although the feedback is more detailed and personal, the amount of feedback from a larger audience isnt big enough compared to questionnaire or the internet, meaning that you are only getting feedback from a few individuals rather than a larger target audience, which is what is needed to get the better amount of audience feedback. From our audience feedback, which we looked at before filming or researching for our music video, we learnt that our target audience expect to see some kind of love interest or storyline in a music video with our genre, and that there clothing must consist of informal wear, such as skinny jeans and bright t shirts, and that also the focus must be on the band, but more focus on the lead singer, which may usually include him/her in the story of the music video. From this, we tried to focus on using the singer in the main storyline, and also including a love interest, so to appeal to our target audiences expectations.

One of the positive outcomes of a questionnaire is that you are able to obtain a lot of information from a larger audience in a short amount of time. If you need to gain quick information about your product from your target audience quickly, then a questionnaire is possibly the best solution. With it, you are able to gain an understanding of what your audience like and dislike in a wider amount, and wont have to wait ages for the results, because it can be done in a simple hand out form, or on the internet, and can be finished in minutes, which is a great advantage for film creators trying to find out fast and simply what their audience like. However, one of the negative outcomes of a questionnaire is that you dont know if the information that is given has been truthful, and not rushed. Although they go out to a larger amount of audience and can be retrieved very quickly, you dont know if the information given is completely honest, or if its been rushed so to not waste the audiences own time. This is negative because it means that the data we receive will be either incorrect, false, or may seem wrong to what we were expecting, and also means we would changing our product to something the audience may not even enjoy, due to lack of conclusive results. From the questionnaire analysis that we sent out before starting our production, and that we received back from our audience of 100 people asked, we learnt that our audience were mostly 18 years old or younger, that over two thirds of them were male, they prefer to see a male as the star image in the storyline, and prefer indie and rock as a genre. From this, we tried to keep the focus on the lead singer while keeping him the main focus in the storyline, so as to keep to our target audiences wants and expectations.

Our questionnaire with its responses One of the positive outcomes to YouTube is that it has a larger variety of audience, rather than just one group of people. Maybe types of audiences use YouTube, and can explore different genres of anything, meaning that your product isnt seen by just one genre of audience. This is good because it means the feedback will vary from positive to what the audience would rather be fixed, meaning we are able to change the product to how the audience want it to be like. One of negative outcomes of YouTube is that anyone can see your videos, and give very negative feedback without watching the videos. If you are signed up to YouTube, you are able to not only view everyones uploads, but also leave comments about their videos, and like or dislike it without actually watching the product or taking into consideration that it isnt actually targeted at them as an audience or how much effort was put into it for the audience. From our audience feedback we received from YouTube after uploading our video, we were able to view the comments by viewers. From looking at the feedback left be viewers, we are able to see how our product worked with the audience on YouTube, and we were able to see that the points were mostly positive, however, we clearly had to do some work on the transitions and fades if member of our audience thought there were too many, so we cut them down and re-uploaded it.

Changing the transitions, before and after One of the positive outcomes to Facebook is the users are fairly young, from the ages of 12-18 which is our target audience. The audience of a product always varies depending on the product, in our case, the target audience are teenagers aged between 12 years old to 18 years old, and the best place to find them is on Facebook, the social networking site used mainly by teenagers. With it, you are able to gain a better response of feedback from your audience, because the product is directly aimed for them.

However, one of the negative outcomes to Facebook is that only people considered as friends can see your uploadings, and probably wont be truthful so they dont upset the creators. Although it is used to reach the target audience specifically, the only people who can view your product are people considered as your friends on the site, meaning that if they do view it, they may choose to lie so as to not hurt the creators feeling, because they may share a personal bond with them, meaning that the feedback we get wont be honest, and may affect the outcome of our final product. From our audience feedback received from Facebook users after uploading our video, we learnt that the feedback was 100% positive. Although this is a good thing, we didnt actually learn if there was anything needing changes, due to the fact that all our comments were from people considered as friends, and possibly proving the negative outcome that the audience on Facebook dont want to upset the creators feelings due to a personal relationship.
